    Prayers for Autumn please

Makes me hurt looking at these yet she says it is not so bad. She is a tough cookie.

    Cute little lamp

    Cure time ?

I use EDTA at 1% batch weight or a combination of EDTA and SG at 0.5% batch weight. Olive really only extends cure time when making 100% Olive oil soap.

    Cure time ?

If this were my recipe, although it is not a question you asked, I would lower the castor to 5% and up the lard to 30%, which will give you more working time. You will be surprised how much more work time you get when reducing the castor. Castor does not add bubbles it supports bubbles. Adding...

Help Needed: Soap Tracing Too Fast and Not Hardening

I am really scratching my head on this one. You say you use no fragrance so that knocks out the heating up from a naughty fragrance and knocks out the fast acceleration/false trace issue. So that goes back to old oils being an issue. First issue I see is false trace from free fatty issue from...

    Prayers for Autumn please

It was 104º out there yesterday when people just drove past her. What is wrong with people? This was not a freeway, but a 45 mph highway where most travel 40 mph and you can make U Turns. I guarantee someone saw her on the side of the road. Tell me all about, "Small Towns".

Thank you and Thank you to all for the prayers and kind thoughts. This has been a long road with many tears, prayers, and many times thinking her body was not going to get over this sepsis. I know some in the family thought we were being taken advantage of, as far as money, but in my heart...

    Old Fragrances/Essential Oils

I should have mentioned I only use the older eo's in soap which is a wash off. Personally, I have never had a problem with them and my skin is uber sensitive. I refuse to just dump good smelling eo's when oxidation can start happening as soon as the oxygen from the air hits them when we open the...

    Harvesting the yard

I know it will not help this year but I wonder if any of those trees can safely be topped so they are manageable in future years? I think I would check with an arbornisnists. I know my uncle used to keep his citrus orchard at manageable height for picking. I remember wearing heavy long sleeves...

    Prayers for Autumn please

Thankyou everyone. Thank goodness her concussion seems to be mild thanks to her helmet. She needs surgery and probably pins to get her wrist back together. Her thumb is broken and cutting off blood flow so surgery is necessary to save her arm. We know what all this means $$$. Poor baby her 4...

    Prayers for Autumn please

Autumn my granddaughter in Winnemucca had a bad accident on her 4-wheeler today. Four young fellas in a 🚛 saw her laying in the dirt on the side of the 🛣️. We know she has a head injury even with her helmet on, possible fractured wrist, and leg.

    sunfllower oil

They had 0 lather. I hate pure OO soap and was looking for a replacement, plus I just always liked to test different scenarios. I found I love 100% SAO soap for my skin.

    Old Fragrances/Essential Oils

I have certainly used both that old, when they still smell good. As Allison mentioned, worst case scenario is they may accelerate trace so he prepared for that. They are just to expensive to throw away if they do not smell off.

    Another Cheryl Update

One more update on Cheryl. She is still home, the Sepsis has apparently been eradicated finally, thank goodness. This has been a very long unbelievably expensive haul, but my daughter is still alive. She did have to go back to Reno this last week for another small surgery to open a gland in...

    sunfllower oil

To answer your question, no it will not make a bar of soap the same as OO soap even with a long cure. I did testing a few years ago with single oil soaps using SAO, HO Sunflower, HO Canola, and Avocado. The only oil that made a decent, in my opinion, was SAO because it did actually lather after...

Can this be made more moisturizing?

If you are finding CO in soap to drying have you tried 100% SAO? It will not lather one tiny bit without a long cure of at least 6 months but it makes a great soap with a 2% superfat. I make it using dual lye at 95/5% NaOH/KOH, Sodium Gluconate, and EDTA at 0.5% each as my chelators. Other than...

    Old Fragrances/Essential Oils

I have quite a stash still that are close to 10 years old that I will soon be unpacking. If they still smell good I will certainly use them especially at today's prices.

    Suggestions for oils

Adding 1-1.1% sorbitol in powder form dissolved in some of your water then added into your oils does really help lather. I have been using it for several years along with Sodium Gluconate as my chelator. It really helps lather. But I also use 40% Palm with 20% Shea with no waxy feel in my vegan...
