    DOS or??

Agreed - not dos. I sometimes get the little specks of oil on top too - from the soap sweating while going into gel. They might end up going a bit 'soda ash-ey' in a time.

April 2024 SMF Challenge - CAKE!

I'm awake now - Monday morning here. Yes, as an embed, or part of a layer that is fine. Just as long as the main 'cake' mixture is CP or HP.

    Looking for carrot soap tips

Any sugars in the soap will actually help to increase lather. So using carrot puree, in theory, would help with lather. I've made a soap with carrot puree and it was a nice soap, but not noticeably different to any other soap I've made. It's nice to try it though - and has label appeal. ETA...

    Fragrances for Hot Process Soap?

I use candle science FOs a lot and they are mostly good. Which particular ones have you used?

    Recipe check please!

I think you are using hot process - am I correct? There may be additional advice about that from hot process peeps. But my initial advice is that you have too much CO - reduce that to 20%. You also have very little in there to contribute to soap longevity - the palmitic or stearic fatty acids...

    Hello From Deer Park, Tx.

Hi and welcome. You can also use ground (dried) orange peel, poppy seeds, dried/ground herbs. Be aware that some things can be scratchy, rather than simply exfoliating. Go for fine grinds until you work out just how much is exfoliating enough for you.

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

I use 2% fractionated CO in mine, and 5% shea butter. This is because I have dry, coarse and frizzy hair and these help to combat that. If you read the ingredients of any commercial shampoo - I'm pretty sure you will find they all use oils of some sort. In fact, I even use my lotion bars (100%...

    First Ever Soaps!!!!

Congratulations! Yes it is more likely that the oil residue is just the nature of handmade soap, if you've not tried it before. My son doesn't like it because he wants it to rinse off clean and leave his hands dry and 'squeaky clean'. You can reduce the superfat a wee bit once you are more...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

Fab! I've never put mine in the freezer. I just leave them on the bench top until hard enough to pop them out - usually in a few hours.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made an Apple scented soap which is still in the mold right now. Smells like fresh cut apple. I have been using my 'Pears' imitation fragrance soap at the kitchen sink, although not fully cured yet - and I noticed as it's curing it's smelling more and more like rosemary. So if I make it...

    Hello from Central VA

Howdy and welcome! I prefer to add my fragrance to the oils before mixing in the lye solution - but everyone differs there. One tip is to read the users' reviews on the FOs you have bought, because they will tell what to watch out for - acceleration, discolouration, ricing etc. Also maybe post...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

I didn't even realise it would melt TBH. I'm not sure what temperature my BTMS, cetearyl and varisoft get to in order to melt, but once they are melted (in the microwave) i move the entire pyrex jug into the pot on water on the stove, and start adding the SCI as explained above. To my...
