    whipped body butter--no mixer!!

I'd recommend getting a cheap hand mixer. I think you can get one for about $16 at the larger drug stores like CVS/Longs, Walgreens, etc. Prylex makes one that I use. Some of the big grocery stores may carry it too. It's nothing fancy but gets the job done. And if you really want to keep it...

    Body butter recipe--thoughts?

Definitely try using a hand mixer. Unfortunately a stick blender won't really be effective for getting a nice whip once it starts to thicken up. Watch this video, and it will really help with making your body butter. She has tons of great videos...

Please explain the saponification process to a newbie

Great first run! It looks so much better than my first batch. As for that first photo, that does look like a partial gel. It looks like you're using a wood mold, which usually does a good job insulating to keep the heat in. When I use mine, I usually put a towel on the top to keep the...

OMG! this lavender is killing me!!

I've just ordered my first batch of lavender 40/42... how much do you typically use per pound of oil? I like to mix it with rosemary, but I don't want it to overpower my soap. Any suggestions?

    Broke down and ordered

Congrats on moving to EOs! I love them, and get such a better result than using FOs. I can't tell you how many batches have seized on me when I use FOs. Unfortunately there is only one scent I have to rely on FOs for and that's vanilla. The only viable source of natural vanilla is to use an...

Natural Almond Scent for CP soap and lotions?

Hi there. I'm looking for a source of a natural almond scent, without having to use a fragrance oil. The closest my research has come to is something called benzaldehyde, which I think is made from roasted cassia oil. Has anyone used this? Does it work? Where can you find some? I haven't...

    Body butter recipe--thoughts?

You might want to add your FOs after you melt any hard oils. The heat might cook of the scent. Heat just has to go and ruin everything! I add it once the oils have cooled to room temperature, and then I whip it. You might also want to try some essential oils instead of fragrance oils...

Does olive oil make a good moisturizer?

You might want to try kukui nut oil. It's fantastic for the skin. Hawaiians use it for treating sunburns. I use it on my face when it's feeling dry, and it makes me look like I'm glowing! No greasy feeling at all.

    Pumpkin CP Soap

Wow, that's some awesome looking soap! I almost want to eat it! Do you have any problems with mold or anything using the pumpkin in the batch?

    Almond Recipe?

Can anyone recommend a recipe or point me in the direction of one that I can use? Thx!

    Ricing?

Yes you would as the heat would evaporate the EOs. You put them after cooking to ensure they don't disappear. The nice thing about HP is that you don't have use as much EO as in CP, but it's a little tricky to getting them in when the batch is cool enough but not so that it starts to set up.

    Almond Recipe?

Should have been more specific! A soap with an almond fragrance. Does Sweet almond oil carry much of a scent of almond after curing?

    Ricing?

I added the EOs after cooking, and just before I put in the mold. I was whisking it to incorporate through the batch, and it was then that I noticed the ricing. I put in lavender EO, lemon EO and rosemary EO. I'm not sure if they are the cause or not. I'm still pleased with the batch...

    Almond Recipe?

Hi there! I'm brand new to this soap making world, and I'm loving it! I've been trying to find a recipe for an almond soap (around 4# or so), but I can't find anything. It's the one recipe that has eluded me so far. Does anyone know where I can find one, or would be willing to share theirs...

    Ricing?

Hi there, I'm new to the world of soap making and I have a few questions. I made a batch of hot process soap and ended up with a little bit of ricing--looks like there are little bits of rice in the batch. For the life of me I can't find any information on what causes it, how to prevent it...
