1 1/2 cup shea butter
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 ounce fragrance oil

I was thinking about trying the Chanel No. 5 type from FNWL. Its my favorite perfume. Should I add the fragrance oil directly to the olive oil before I add it to the shea butter?

Hey,
I'd advise you to use grams instead of cups. That's a lot more accurate.
Your recipe won't have a lot of bubbles, and that much shea is really not necesarry for good soap... Makes it pretty expensive.
I would add something that makes your soap more bubbly, like coconut oil or palm kernal oil, up the olive and use less shea.
And if you can get your hands on it (at most pharmacies) some castor. I always add 5% and it makes your soap so much more bubbly.

are you making soap or body butter? (I saw mention of that in another post)

Oh, I'm sorry! I should've said what the recipe was for! I meant to! anyways, it's for a body butter. Really sorry for that confusion! I'm going to see if i can edit the thread title.

No, not yet! I'm very anxiously awaiting my order from fnwl. It should be here Thursday hopefully!! I'm just dying to get my hands on that Shea and sniff my 1st FO. I ordered rose and vanilla buttercream. I'm already eyeing more scents...never knew the addiction would start before I even made my first recipe! lol

You might want to add your FOs after you melt any hard oils. The heat might cook of the scent. Heat just has to go and ruin everything! I add it once the oils have cooled to room temperature, and then I whip it.

You might also want to try some essential oils instead of fragrance oils. I've had some reactions to some fragrance oils. They are synthetic and sometimes skin just doesn't like it.

Good luck, and share your results. I'd love to hear out it comes out.

ok, ive never made body buter before, i melted oils, cooled down and sb, for a bit, then cooled down again, sb again, it wasnt doing anything, added honey butter fo, sb some more, now its getting SO thick my sb doesnt like it, am i doing this right? should i have used a mixer instead, it didnt get real peaky, but looks ok, i used natural shea and cocoa, my fo doesnt smell much?

Definitely try using a hand mixer. Unfortunately a stick blender won't really be effective for getting a nice whip once it starts to thicken up.

Watch this video, and it will really help with making your body butter. She has tons of great videos.

thanks, i watched it, i dont have some of the indg. she used, but good video.

I use my big Kitchenaid-- you can mix for a long time without stressing it :)

Someone gave me the tip not to melt shea or mango butter; just whip them from the solid (soft) state, drizzle in the liquid oils (and melted beeswax and cocoa butter if using) and keep whipping until it's nice and fluffy. Spoon into jars and let it set up.

ok, it is very greasy and i do not like the cocoa butter or shea scent, i will buy deoderized next time.

OK, my big secret for body butters (which don't have water) and are not greasy and smooth straight into the skin is.....drum roll......I make 50% oils and butters and 50% aloe. It works wonders and just feels great afterwards. I started doing this cuz my greasy butters were a flop and now I can not keep my butters in stock. EOs work wonders in the scent department as well.

I'm assuming you use e-wax and add a preservative to this? It sounds wonderful!
