Is 4% s/f too low? Should I rebatch?

Whew!! I have been kicking myself all week over this mistake. I cannot afford to lose even one batch (shoestring budget). I do have two greasy teenage boys in my house!!! So thanks for the info about guys, JudyMoody! And ToniD I never even thought to use some of it for embeds - but you are...

Is 4% s/f too low? Should I rebatch?

Ok - stupid mistake on my part. I made a recipe with Palm Kernel Oil (didn't mean to do that) but soaped used Palm Oil. So the lye amount is higher than needed to saponify Palm Oil. This results in a superfat of 4% if I have calculated correctly. Here is the recipe: Olive oil 50% - 16.5 oz...

    Disappointed with my soaps.

Oh don't give up! I have to keep my cleansing number between 12-14 for my skin. I use between a 5-7% superfat, too.

Looking for a simple liquid soap recipe

Suannaski - how is the liquid soap coming? I see that after six hours you still hadn't reached vaseline stage. I start my liquid soap on high in the crockpot, but turn it down to low after about an hour.

If you like honey oatmeal soap - preferred oat flake size?

I like using collodial oatmeal - no scratchiness at all. I stickblend into my oils, before lye. I make my goatmilk, oatmeal, and honey soaps unscented but I think a slight cinnamon smell would be delightful!

    liquid soap ?

Do you buffer using a borax solution? I find that thickens my liquid soap somewhat. Why do you not wish to reduce your water amount?

First attempt at layered CP a success! Pics included

Lovely! I like the green of your nettles and rosemary powder. Lavender and Rosemary is one of my favorite EO blends as well.

Looking for a simple liquid soap recipe

Liquid soap can sometimes be a bit tricky. I suggest you make small batches for personal use before gifting anything. After all, you want to give the best! I use the David Fisher recipe for liquid soap as well and let the paste cook in the crockpot for several hours. Another great resource...

    Inventory on hand?

Dennis - completely agree with Paillo - you were missed! My teens just roll their eyes and shrug when they see mom laughing uncontrollably at the computer. They so don't appreciate soap humor! Edited to add: I think your ugliest looks like a strawberry slushie! I like the color and I don't...

How much Orange EO to make the scent last?

The only citrus I use are folded ones. I can find a 5x lemon EO from New Directions Aromatics - this holds its scent in my liquid soaps and seems to hold fairly well in CP soap. I also like the 15x Orange from Wholesale Suppliers Plus. I have yet to find a folded grapefruit or lime.

Essential Depot - do you like their EO's?

I checked on the supplier's recommendations for this info, but only found comments on his lye. I buy lye from Essential Depot, but wondered about the essential oils. Anyone use his eo's? Like/ dislike? Thanks!

    Help Please- Soapmakers Choice Product

I melt my coconut and palm oils in a hot water bath and pour into a large ziploc bag. Then double bag and lay it flat on a cookie sheet. After a day in the fridge it is hard enough to stand upright or stack. Before soaping I let it sit on the counter a few hours, which makes it easy to cut...

What do you think about Rice Bran Oil?

I've used rice bran at 15-20% and not had problems with DOS. I use a combo of olive oil and rice bran plus other oils and like the result.
