I know those of you that sell soap have plenty on hand, but what about those who don't sell? I give away a lot of soap to friends but maybe need more friends. A count of what is on the shelves, in the living room and soon to be somewhere in the garage has turned up 193 bars. Problem is, there are so many more things I want to try. Are some of you in the same boat?

<raises>

Guilty as charged.
In addition, I have enough non-perishable supplies to keep me stocked in soap until after I die. Oils I tend to buy as I need them.

But I am also a spinner and have more than my fair share of stash fiber and finished yarn as well.

In teh Fiber community, we refer to this as a SEAL (Stash Exceeds Anticipated Lifespan).

So now I have TWO hobbies (Three if you count the knitting that I do from teh yarns I make) that have a full on case of SEAL.

Dennis, find a women's shelter to donate all your excesses to. or any other kind of shelter. lets you get rid of some extra soap and make someone who feels rather low feel good about themself :)

Krissy,

You are absolutely right. Donating the products of our handicrafts is a good way to contribute back to the community and also provides us with an excellent resource for feedback beyond our immediate circle of family and friends who may not critique our soaps and body products objectively.

I was laughing at the first two posts- so funny!

Yes, I have WAY more soap than I will ever need. The problem is that like Dennis, I still have so many more I wanna try. I get so inspired by what people on here create. Photo Gallery: WOOHOO!!

Now I keep a running list of what I want to try, in order to fulfill my most urgent soaping needs. This prevents me (a bit) from getting sidetracked by a quart of buttermilk at the grocery!

I have to say, though, my friends and nieces do appreciate it, and I so enjoy the ooo's and ahh's. Christmas was good for unloading, lol. I also gave some to my son's new girlfriend the other day and I thought she was going to kiss me :)

The shelter is a great idea, I'm going to look into that and see what's closest to me.

ack! not me, i'm almost completely out of everything, holiday sales way exceeded what i'd planned for or even dreamed of, had to resort to hp'ing bunches of batches just to keep up. now that flurry is over, thank gawd, i'm back to cp and building the inventory back up.

the women's shelter is a lovely idea for donating excess soap. also, if you have too many guest-sized soaps, homeless shelters love donations of these, as they 're perfect for the short-stay folks.

My daughter in Oklahoma has me shipping her the stuff, my son's girl friend and mom love it and want to buy, it goes on and on. I've gotta say thank you for the shelter and guest size ideas. Looks as though I will start purposely making for giveaway to these worthy services, thereby satisfying my soaping jones and finding justificaiton to spend more, more,MORE!! on soaping stuff. :D :D :D MUUUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Maybe even a tax deduction.

I try to anticipate demand and make batches accordingly, but it is hard, with the 4 week cure. I made a bunch before the holidays, figuring I would need some after Epiphany. I just got my first order of the year, so I was right.

I am replenishing my inventory from the holiday sales. Starting with the best selling scents, and them making some more of the confetti soap (different color inserts) just for creative fun.

If you do not want to sell - or need to - then I agree that the different shelters are a great way to share your soaps with folks who will probably appreciate them.

I definitely have more than I need, although quite a bit less as I just cleaned out my stock for Christmas and gave all of the REALLY old (really good) and really ugly bars away.

probably have 50-70 bars right now just sitting and lots more I want to do right now.

Just found out the other day that my lovely but mysterious sometimes soap assistant threw out my ugliest. It had been in the kitchen window for a long time and was used. It was the remains of my first salt soap that had to be dug out of a cup used for a mold. I feel violated.

I give to my local food bank sometimes. Food banks always appreciate this kind of thing. We have several around here covering the different towns, and while some get an awesome variety of donations, others only ever receive food, so the personal care items are a great addition. Especially when you think that there are so many resources for the needy to get food and basically none for personal care items.

Dennis, you need to watch that mysterious sometimes soap assistant. I think she is learning magic. How to make things disappear!

She's slick, but I'm keeping a closer eye on her now. I think she secretly sold it to a neighbor to finance her ongoing belly dance lessons that have been outlawed. ManKatt knows what's going on but he's not talking. No fool is he. 8) Most kitty treats come from the woman of the house.

Dennis - completely agree with Paillo - you were missed! My teens just roll their eyes and shrug when they see mom laughing uncontrollably at the computer. They so don't appreciate soap humor!

Edited to add: I think your ugliest looks like a strawberry slushie! I like the color and I don't think it is so very bad.
