I made my first batch of soap tonight... well, tried to at least. Here is my recipe. http://www.veggiesoaps.com/recipes/perfect-goat-milk-oatmeal-honey-soap/1009.asp

My goat milk was frozen, and reached a high of 95, added to oil mixture when both were at 92degrees. Only thing I did different was add 5 oz of coconut oil to replace 5 missing ounces of palm oil. Immersion blended until it died, then put on stand mixer on low speed. I think it blended for close to an hour and... nada. I covered it up. Help? I don't know what to do. My gut tells me to add a little more lye.

Whatever you do, don't add more lye. You run the risk of caustic soap.

You should also never switch out oils without recalculating your recipe. In this case, you'd need 12.9 ounces, not 12.7 which means that you are slightly above 5% superfat but not enough to make a difference.

I have no explanation about why your soap failed to trace. With that much water and olive oil, it might be a bit slow but not to the point of burning out a blender. It may surprise you and turn out just fine. Give it some time.

Surprise! Woke up with it hard as a rock in my mixer with the paddle still down. Now what? How do I reliquify it to get it into molds?

Maybe someone with more experience with rebatches can come along and explain, but this sounds like you have to remelt and do this as a rebatch.

On no! You'll just have to dig it out with a spoon, fork, knife, shovel.. Little by little and rebatch it in a crock pot of double boiler.

Unfortunately you are going to have to kind of dig the soap out of the mixer as with the paddle attachment still down I am not sure if you could put it over a double boiler. It is not going to be easy I am afaird but I really don't know another way. Next time just pour it in the mold that way it is much easier to deal with. Maybe someone else will have some advice just be careful I hate to see you ruin you stand mixer for a batch of soap. It may be easier on the mixer if you just run hot water in it to get the soap out and ditch the soap. Sorry to say that but comparing the cost of the oils and the cost of a new stand mixer I would save my mixer at all cost. Good luck let us know how it goes.

I am sorry for your troubles, you started with a tough recipe. Goat milk isnt easy to deal with on your first attempt, (as far as how it interacts with lye) and then oatmeal and honey are major heat conductors, making it difficult to not overheat your soap in the mold (Resulting in cracks/splits, and ash). I am no help when it comes to re-batching, but everyone else is very knowledgeable about it. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
