hi... i need help. can any 1 please tell me which grade of isopropyl alcohol to use? actually i i am a newbie to soap making and few days back tried making taiwan swirls, it turned out to be gr8 but inspite of wrapping it properly i had a lot of ash:sad: so i am planning to try rubbing alcohol the next time.. so is a lab based isopropyl alcohol safe to use for this purpose? thank u in advance:smile::smile:

Oooookhay.... :)
but is lab based suitable? i actually have it handy... it is lik wat, lik 100% isopropyl alcohol... will it do? so that it wont be wasted...

It will be fine. You're fortunate to be able to find 100%. The best I can find is 91%. Of course, 91% is good, too. You can even use 70% isopropyl alcohol.

you can also steam it with either a clothes steamer or by boiling water on the stove and physically working the soap in your hands. either way i have used removes the ash with ease.

Hazel, the 70% dis not work for me. I continued to have ash until I switched to the 91%. Don't know if my ash was particularly stubborn, but it took the 91% to get rid of it.

Can you use the alcohol to remove the ash after the soap has already cured? Or does it only work before it has fully soponified?
