I stay in Alabama and the city I stay in does not have any lye available, can someone please tell me where I can purchase lye. I am new to soapmaking so is there an easy way to calculate the right measurements because the charts are confusing to me... HELP : -)

i got mine from ace also in the drain cleaner section. a brand called Roebics i think.
also the guy offered to order me as much as i wanted so you might want to see if someone will do the same for you.

it's tougher to get lye in alabama nowadays. walmart and ace used to carry it-but now i believe you have to purchase it at a chemical supplier.

you might try "googling" sodium hydroxide alabama or lye alabama. or www.red_devil_lye.com

i havent had to search for lye yet, as i am still working my way thru the last 100#'s i purchased.

i'd be interested in knowing what you find out, as i will eventually have to reorder.

I found an amazing price for lye just by going to the phone book under the chemical section. Of course, it is for a large quantity, but they also supply smaller quantities.

I'm in Philadelphia, and was shocked I couldn't find lye in a big city. From what I understand, people use lye to make meth, thats why it's no longer on the store shelves. My first lye was purchased online from Brambleberry along with other soap making supplies. Then I brought twice as much for the same price from www.aaa-chemicals.com.

I use the Brambleberry Lye calculator because it is so simple, then I study the soap mixture properties at soapcalc
