If it was that expensive i'd get an RO unit for about $200 you can have all the water you want and sell it on the side for extra money..

Not in the way you want. Boiling water will kill biological contaminants, which is a good thing for baby formula, but it will just concentrate any chemical contaminants. I use the term "contaminants" broadly, most of the time I wouldn't consider calcium a contaminant in tap water, but if it interferes with soapmaking...

For the record, I use tap water here in Portland, OR. Never had a problem with it. If your tap water is not particularly hard, and you're comfortable drinking it, I would say give it a try.
