I finally did something I have been meaning/wanting to do for some time but had simply been uninspired. I made Ciaglia soap. It's nothing fancy but I think I like it. I'll unmold and cut it tomorrow before posting any pictures; at this point, though, I'm happy with the colour (even though it looks a bit like pea soup) and I'm happy with the fragrance (Aloe & Green Clover).

I'm finding that lately I've been making soap because "I hafta!", with markets coming up and such but I've been a bit uninspired. This Ciaglia soap has gotten some of the creative juices flowing again and it feels good. It's about time!

I like it, @Misschief - looks like they will be super cute when you unmold them! 🥰

I'm pretty happy with it. Here's the cut, and unmolded, soap.

I finally made an actual beach soap, with a sandy layer and shells on top. I had my fingers crossed on this one because my son called right as I was making the first layer. We kept talking because he called during a window of opportunity (the Alligator Alley drive from Naples to Plantation in FL) and I didn’t want to miss the chance for a good long chat. The middle blue layer could’ve been a little lighter, but overall I am super happy with the color of the new blue ultramarine I bought from BrambleBerry, plus it’s much easier to mix with oil compared with the last batch of UB I had from an Amazon supplier. (Edited to add: I also used a tiny bit of Hydrated Chrome Green in the middle blue layer). The only thing I missed was adding FO to one of the blue layers. Whew! Rough cut:

ETA: here are the two colorants in case anyone is not familiar with them

You were able to mix the UM blue with oil? That’s really good to know. I use UMs but it’s always a bit of a struggle getting them incorporated. I usually mix them with glycerin and then mix either to the lye or into the batter. I realize it won’t dissolve in the oil, just disperse (I guess).

Very pretty! Nice looking soap @Mobjack Bay

For the first time I made a shampoo bar soap. It's for "Curly hair." It is made with a rose tea and lye solution. It has Amla & Kaolin clay. No FO at all. I made this for me as my hair is thinning and I'm finally tired of having curly hair. It was poured yesterday. I will let it set all day before cutting it tomorrow in 1" slices. It was made with Castor, coconut, jojoba, olive, palm oil & shea butter. Oddly, this is exactly the color it's supposed to be using the rose tea & Amla powder.

Always nice when your vision materializes

I made soap last night, and it turned out perfectly! The backstory is that my last few batches didn't turn out well, and everything pointed to something with my MB lye solution. This was one where I had premixed it to 40% concentration and included the sorbitol and CA. It worked well at first, but about half-way through the jug, my soap batter started behaving differently. Some wouldn't trace; others traced but leaked or full-on separated in the mold. One large batch in my slab mold ended up with a huge heat cavity, filled with liquid that smelled like vomit (no milk products were used, either). 🤮 See pic #1, below. I've never had that happen before! Needless to say, this entire batch went into the trash. :(

That last failure was enough to motivate me to put the lye solution down a few drains throughout the house, and make a new MB, this time at 50% with no additives. It was tough getting a glove over my thumb splint, but soapers gonna soap, ya know? ;) And I'm so glad I did. This batch is scented with a mix of 2 parts lavandin EO and 1 part Bouquet of Roses FO, a very popular blend with a couple of friends who have been patiently waiting for me to make a decent batch of soap. The color was supposed to be pink, but it's definitely more of a blush pink on the peachy side. A last minute decision was to press my texture mat on top, which served double-duty as a covering for the soap, too. One hour on the heating pad, then left to sit under a towel, and it was ready to unmold and cut this morning, about 12 hours after pouring. It's now been cut and trimmed, and is sitting under plastic wrap for a few days to prevent soda ash. The shadow makes it look like a partial gel, but IRL, the colors are smooth and even. Yay!

That's pretty with the mat! This soapy adventure teaches us so much, and it's fun!
