What soapy thing have you done today?

I am using a bar of oatmeal, goat's milk, and honey soap that just finished the first 6 weeks of it's cure. It's very nice, but it is gritty. I've never had one of my oatmeal soaps be gritty before. I used Aveeno colloidal oats and powdered goats milk. I'm sure it's the oats because another bar with powdered goats milk but no oats is super creamy. I wonder if I should have hydrated the oats somehow? It's very odd to me.

Hoping to hear any comments on this. One of my next soaps is planned to include colloidal oats, which I’ve never done before. Curious….

Im making both today. I know my daughter put some breast milk on a rash at the waist diaper line and it helped so it may be beneficial. We will see.

I love this place. I was able to search the forum and finf=d the answers I need to make breast milk soap.
Did this actually work we have a bunch of extra breast milk and my wife wants me to make them into soap, didn't even know it could be a lotion

@dmcgee5034 and @MrsZ, I have made several batches with colloidal oats and never had gritty bits. My colloidal oats are Crafters Choice from WSP. Shouldn’t be any different than Aveno but maybe? I just add the oats to my oils and blend them in.

Same here, I've never had grit before either. I didn't keep good notes on how I added it in the past though. How much oats do you use PPO, if you don't mind my asking? I'm wondering if I just used too much.

Hmmm that is interesting. Did your Aveeno oatmeal contain anything else besides oatmeal?

I do mix my colloidal oats in a bit of water before adding them to my soap batter. I'm not sure that's entirely necessary, but I like seeing them melt into the water and almost completely dissolve.

No, the ingredients are 100% oats. Maybe I dissolved them in the past and didn't this time? I'll try another batch and dissolve the oats in a little water first and see how it goes. :)
