What soapy thing have you done today?

It has been quite a while since I popped in here. I have not done a soapy thing for a while--I believe the last batch of soap I made was in May 2023. Even put all of my soaping supplies in storage bins. Wondered if anyone has attempted to sell used supplies on eBay.
I haven't sold any soapy things on ebay, but I think SMF has a FB destash group? Maybe I'm not remembering correctly. There is also a classified section here.

If all else fails, I've never had a problem with someone quickly taking soapy/crafty items when I put them on my local Buy Nothing group (also FaceBook).

@The_Phoenix I am sorry to hear you aren't soaping anymore, and I hope all is ok for you. I was going to suggest our SMF classified section, too. I've been both a seller and buyer there, with all positive outcomes. A friend of mine keeps close watch on FB Marketplace for soapy destashes; seems like there is a study supply of them there.

I always love your soaps, you're so skilled with colors and swirls!

One of my Christmas orders was picked up today. This is the customer who specifically requested packaging so she can give the soaps as gifts for Christmas. This is the order that fueled my mission to finally figure out how to package and label. Needless to say, I was anxious to see her reaction to my packaging/labeling. She was thrilled! So thrilled that she doubled her order, gave me a tip, and told me she'd like to regularly purchase in bulk and asked when I will be making more since she now knows how long they take to properly cure.

Life is actually really good. My full-time job keeps me very engaged and I’ve swapped one hobby (soap-making) with another (designing and sewing clothing for myself). I deactivated all social media so Facebook marketplace is out for me.

Hope all is well with you.

Oh, gosh, you are very kind. I appreciate your words.

I am not on any social media (never have been). If you do choose to list things, please let me know. I'd much rather purchase from well known members here than on eBay.

@The_Phoenix glad all is well. Sewing is a great hobby. I haven’t designed any of my own clothes but I have made quite a few. We will miss you and I hope you continue to pop in occasionally.
Please list what you would like to sell in the classifieds here. It seems like things sell very quickly. All the best to you.

I got my dilution ratio figured out and now have foaming soap at the kitchen sink being tested by the whole family.

Last night, I made a fresh batch of liquid soap paste using the same base recipe as before, but using half glycerin/ half water. I did this to see how my skin reacts when only changing this one variable now that I know castor is NOT my friend in higher percentages. The remarkable part was getting to witness my paste go through gel phase!

....and now I feel like a bonafide scientist. I have multiple jars of liquid soap diluting at differing ratios. Some with glycerin, some without; some with sodium lactate, some without; ect. I'm starting to suspect it's the sodium lactate that's rising to the top and clouding my diluted soap.

Well, I ran out of enough oils and have made enough batches that I felt confident buying a larger bulk order of supplies. But soapers choice is out of sweet almond oil entirely and are out of the 7lb tallow option, which were exactly the two oils I wanted a larger amount of. So I guess I'll have to wait to order until both are back in stock. In the meantime, I've been convincing other people to take up soapmaking :D

It’s been a while since I made soap, too. And unfortunately my favorite mold and my notebook with all my recipes and experiments is still MIA in storage…it is probably (I hope) somewhere in a box in the garage. Lost track of it after the last move.

But, right before bed last night I printed off a basic recipe from SoapCalc. I am awaiting a delivery of fresh oils and lye, and so if all goes well I should have my first batch of soap in about three years completed by the end of this week. I am pretty excited to finally be ready to start making soap again.
