What soapy thing have you done today?

See, I knew you tidy soapers looked down on us peons! I just knew it!!

I'm a tidy soaper. I don't have enough room (or time) to be messy. I have everything laid out, organized, and Ready, Set, SOAP! I keep a plastic bin (like the ones from hospitals) near me to put soapy stuff in as I go so I can just take the bin to the sink after the soap is made and covered.

Today, I made another small batch (250g oils) of liquid soap. I am making basically the same recipe as my version of ZNSB (minus the faux seawater), but with KOH instead of NaOH. I figure, at least this way I shouldn't have any bad reactions. It came to trace quicker than I expected which was a lovely surprise. I'll check it for zap tomorrow.

I did all the work and all the pouring and swirling only to discover that I forgot the dang fragrance. Dumped the fragrance in and mixed the colors for a brownish red and added some green and red coloring to the top. It’s supposed to be Vine Ripe Tomato. It’s better than nothing. At least it will look as rustic as it smells.

I wouldn't call myself a "tidy" soaper, but I also have a limited amount of space to work (about 3 1/2 feet of countertop space in the kitchen), so I definitely have to work in stages and keep on top of the mess.

Now cooking, that's a different story!

Sure does and annoying when someone is walking behind, backwards and forwards to the backyard, only happens when I make soap, would love a separate space, but it's not going to happen.

I ran out of sodium lactate and had to use salt crystals, but I’ve ordered more! I did not know to dissolve the solid additives first so I’ve made a note and I’ll do that in the future! Previously I used only sodium lactate so I never had to consider when I added the additives.

I tried dissolving sugar in lye solution once and it was horrible - I ended up straining a lot of it out. Since then, I've always stirred salt and sugar (honey), as well as citric acid before dissolving NaOH in the liquid

Surely, you know I couldn't waiting that long.
I started weighing oils and lye around 4pm and had fully diluted liquid soap at 9pm. It's still warm so it hasn't thickened up yet, but I just had to try a little off my spatula...
It lathers and didn't hurt!

Update: 1:1 dilution is too thick (not surprising with such high oleic), but 1:1.5 is too runny, which is definitely a surprise. I'm waiting for 1:1.25 to cool so I can see if that's the sweet spot.

Thanks. I didn't even use stearic and still got a beautiful opaque off-white color that is similar to my ZNSB bar soaps. I don't think with the low amounts of coconut and castor in this recipe will work well in a foamer (but I'm experimenting to be sure) so I'm really trying to hone in on the best dilution rate for a regular pump. I wish I would've left it alone at 1:1 until my fragrance and PS80 arrive.

I've gotta swear off watching those perfect soapers on their YouTubes with their perfectly clean counters and utensils. I made such a mess. My gloves become coated with titanium dioxide and soap batter and then my spatulas get covered and slippery I use a ketchup bottle for my titanium dioxide and at one point it plopped into my batter.

Wait, what? Your soaping session sounds like most of mine. I thought the you tube videos were all fake.
