I just read a thread where ChrissyB mentioned the oils sitting in her soaping cupboard......so -

What do you have waiting to use for soap? I have my standard oils of CO, RBO, OO, Palm, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter & Mango Butter. However I have also invested in (for that read 'impulse buy'... )

Corn Oil
Avocado Oil
Castor Oil
Sweet Almond Oil
Grapeseed Oil
Raspberry Seed Oil (that was an investment!)
Neem Oil
Meadowfoam Seed Oil
Jojoba Oil
Macadamia Nut Oil
Canola Oil
and Lime oil infused avocado oil.....

I have only used a few of these as yet, but I am still only up to batch no. 20, so the day is young

Hi Tanya, yes I have quite a few too. Some I buy because I need them, some I buy because I want them...

Castor Oil
Organic Coconut Oil
Organic Palm Oil
Palm Kernel Oil
Jojoba Oil
Rice Bran Oil
Grapeseed Oil
Olive Oil
Sunflower Oil
Canola Oil
Camelia Tea Oil :(
Macadamia Oil
Hempseed Oil
Flaxseed Oil
Avocado Oil
Avocado Oil with Lime
and in the fridge I have more coconut oil (copha), and palm oil.(Frymasta for whipped soap)

I seem to buy a couple of something everytime I go to the shops, I think I have an illness.

I also have organic flaxseed oil and I will use that too in soap one day....no not an illness, an addiction....

I don't know how the raspberry seed oil smells....I haven't even taken off the tape from around the cap....just a sec while I take a sniff.....okay, yes apparently it smells like raspberry seeds taste when the get stuck in your teeth and you crunch them (direct quote from my daughter!). And it tastes faintly of raspberry seeds too.

Hey IrishLass - what do you feel MFSO adds to your body butters please? I have some I bought to add to a shampoo bar and would love to use it in other products. I always add mango butter to my body butters - it feels heavenly on my skin! Also what the heck is Spectrum Palm Shortening? (You learn something new every day....)

Tanya :)

Vegetable Shortening (Canola)

Olive
Rice Bran
Camellia
Castor
Babasu
Evening Primrose
Meadowfoam
Cherry Kernel
Peach Kernel
Rosehip
Shea Butter (unrefined)
Cocoa Butter (unrefined)

My list is really small:

Hmmm - not as small as I thought and that doesn't include all my stuff I put in it - no wonder I'm running out of room - sheesh!

I absolutely love MFSO in my butters. I used to use jojoba oil to mix with my butters, but there's just something about MFSO. I can feel a noticable difference when I use it instead of jojoba. It's a really nice difference- a thicker, more luxurious feeling on my skin, if you will. It's that same kind of luxurious difference I got when I started mixing mango butter in with my usual kokum for my body butters. It added that extra oomph to my butter formula that was able to turn something that was normally great and wonderful into something absolulutely fantastical. I hope I explained myself well. :)

Spectrum Palm Shortening is a shortening I can get at my local healthfood store. Even my regular grocery store has started selling it now, I noticed. Anyway, it's an organic palm oil made by a company that uses sustainable farming practices. You can either cook with in place of animal fats, or you can soap with it. I know of other soapers who use it in their soap in a pinch if they run out of their regular bulk palm. They use it just the same as their regular palm- same sap # and all. Here are a couple of links explaining what it is:

I've never soaped with palm oil before (I love my lard and tallow), but I bought a little tub of it to make a pie crust with, and since I have quite a bit left over and it's just sitting in my fridge, I thought I'd make a sample batch of soap with it. I'm going to try to do that today, as a matter of fact. I'm going to use it in place of my lard in one of my regular lard formulas and see how it goes.

I don't have a big list, I'm really feeling like an oil orphan after reading some of these lists

Canola
Corn
Olive
Coconut
Lard
Shortening
Vitamin E
Cocoa Butter
Shea Butter
Safflower

Coconut oil
Palm oil
Lard
Rice bran oil
castor oil
olive oil
olive pomice oil
Fr. coconut oil
Jojoba oil
Grapeseed oil
Sweet almond oil
Lanolin
shea butter
cocoa butter
coffee butter
Apricot K. oil

Also have but don't use
canola oil
soybean oil
shortning
corn oil

I think that is it.

Thanks for that information IrishLass - I think you will enjoy palm in your soap. I have recently begun adding it to help my soap hardness and it works well. It doesn't have the same finished texture as lard or tallow - not as creamy feeling - but it is a great addition IMHO. I also only use sustainable plantation palm grown here in Australia.

Everyone's oil cupboards are simply groaning with goodies! Even your list jbarad is still pretty impressive. What a bunch of soapaholics we are!

Anyone else?

Tanya :)

The absurd thing for me is that I soap primarily with coconut oil and lard or palm. Occasionally olive or shea.

The rest... it sits.
