No replies on my maple and brown sugar topic...maybe this is more specific. I just need to figure out something to get a nice warm caramel colour.

Cloves?
Ginger?
Cinnamon?
honey?

What do you think?

i always have a warm honey colour with my soap if i use goats' milk and honey; the lye caramelises the sugars in the goats' milk and the honey to give you that colour.

When do you add the honey? Also- do you think brown sugar could be used instead of honey? Would it also give a browning effect?

This batch I decided to use Iron Oxide, golden brown since I had to go to the soap supply store anyway. The soap is still 'doing its thing' under the blanket, but so far the colour looks spot-on. I'm excited to see how it looks this afternoon!

the first time i added honey was in with the goats' milk, which i was using instead of water to dissolve the lye.
the last time i aded honey, i put it in with the oils - this shade of caramel was beautiful.

I just tried something new last night and it turned out sort of a cappacino colour - if I get time later today I will post pics.

Your maple syrup and sugar thing made me curious so I did an Oatmeal, Brown sugar and Sandalwood powder bar (I know this sounds insane, but Sandalwood powder (for me atleast really rounds off the sweet oatmealy scent). The colour turned out nicely when I added the sandalwood powder - I think at least and it smells all sweet and breakfasty!
