Um, maybe best to keep private what you and your husband talk about?
Thanks. That sounds like a good idea. I'm playing with herbs a lot lately too, so a salve based on an infused oil seems like it could work. I might leave the emulsions to later.@GuacamoleSalad you can always start with lotion bars. They are easy and don't require too many new ingredients to buy if you've been making soap.
If you want true lotion I recommend the DIY Bath and Body shop on Etsy for recipes. She has some great stuff! It's just a little harder on the wallet to get everything.
Welcome to the addiction! I haven’t made a salve yet but have incorporated calendula infused oil into a lotion bar.Thanks. That sounds like a good idea. I'm playing with herbs a lot lately too, so a salve based on an infused oil seems like it could work. I might leave the emulsions to later.
I decided it’s time to up my lotion/body butter game, so I bought a bunch of ingredients for a Humblebee and Me recipe. I’m ready to try formulating with hydrous ingredients. Can’t wait for everything to arrive!@GuacamoleSalad another good place for recipes is HumblebeeandMe.com. She has a beginner lotion series on YT that is really helpful, too.
The Nerdy Farm Wife is a great resource for usage of herbs, infusions, etc. I don’t know if you’ll find any lotion recipes on her site, although I’ve got a couple of her books and there are some recipes there. She tends toward non-preservative-needing things - she definitely keeps things on the more natural side.Thanks. That sounds like a good idea. I've used optiphen (not plus) and made unscented lotion. I didn't smell chemically to me and mine but YMMV. I think you can also use liquid germall plus.@Misschief @AliOop
I'm making more lotion concentrate tonight, but I can't turn any into lotion until I buy more preservative. Is there another preservative that works as well as Optiphen Plus for this recipe that doesn't smell so bad? I have a specific fragrance in mind, but I'd like to have the option to make unscented lotion too without the chemically smell.
@GuacamoleSalad -- a huge plug here from me on lotion bars. Just a few ingredients, melt, pour, and no curing time!@GuacamoleSalad you can always start with lotion bars. They are easy and don't require too many new ingredients to buy if you've been making soap.

Yay, you did it!! See, not so bad, eh?Okay, so breaking news from the Zing household. Mrs. Zing and I made shampoo bars! A coupla years ago, I ordered supplies that just gathered dust in my soap shop until today when Mrs. Zing forced us to make Christmas presents.
It was a little stressful because I was going between two recipes. And the powder, yeah, that's a real thing . Thanks to @AliOop , we wore masks. We did a beta testing batch of 4 so it was a challenge to weigh out teeny tiny amounts. Our four bars are in the freezer and in a few hours will be in the shower! So, admittedly, I am not the best test subject with what I like to call my "low maintenance hairdo" but in addition to Mrs. Zing, our two kiddos, including @Sting are coming for Thanksgiving so we'll gather several opinions. Barely colored with kermit green mica and scented with rosemary essential oils.
And tusen takk to our good friend, @Misschief , who years ago was generous in giving me tips.
I even know what that means! And tusen takk to our good friend, @Misschief , who years ago was generous in giving me tips.

Next up is solid conditioner bars (for Mrs. Zing, obviously). They are pretty much the same as lotion bars, but slightly different ingredients. You probably have most of them already, so get right on that, will ya?
Tusen takk is Norwegian for "thank you very much" (literally "a thousand thanks") and I tend to use it when saying "thank you" isn't enough. 'Preciatecha!I even know what that means!
Glad to read that you FINALLY got with the program. Kudos to Mrs. Zing for lighting that fire. You do realize that they're not just for hair; they make a great all in one bar - head to toe!
