Man that is scary stuff! I am so glad that you are okay. I hate to hear when someone gets hurt.
Okay everyone.
All together now.
GOGGLES ON!!!

thanks for all the good wishes!
my eye still hurts and is my vision is blurred, but the doctor said that will be normal for 3-5 days bc i have to put a cream right on my eye. yikes!

Wow. I've just started dipping my foot in the soap making world with m&p soaps...I'm so glad that I'm reading things like this to prepare myself before I get ready for cp soap making.

I'm sooooo happy to hear that you're going to heal just fine and there's no permanent damage.

Hey all,
so earlier i was making soap (I've made literally like 100 batches, at least). As i poured the lye mixture into the oils, it splashed up into my eye. i immediately flushed it with water for 10 minutes and called a friend to bring me to the eye doctor. Turns out I burned a whole in the white portion of my eye, which supposedly heals quickly. Thankfully my cornea was undamaged. If it was, I could have lost some of my vision.
So, for all of you who are like me and don't faithfully wear goggles, WEAR THEM. I cannot describe the pain and discomfort I am in now. I am thankful, though, because it could have been a lot worse.
Also, let's all be familiar with what to do in case we have an incident with lye- it's some serious stuff!

Stay safe!!!

May I second this? I've had lye splash up against my safety goggles (one thing i'm religious on - all the rest is incidental and yes, my hands hav suffered but my eyes are irreplaceable) more than once, and that is the one sin that will get you kicked out of my classes (I teach soap once in a blue moon).

Don't risk what won't regenerate people!

Glad you're safe Christelle!

I'm so glad that you are okay. That's really scary and and serves as an important reminder for all of us.

Take care of yourself.

I am lax as well with protection, but I will wear goggles in the future.

Yes, lye hurts on the skin, but my skin will heal, my eyes are too precious. I hate wearing the things, but I will bite the bullet in the future.
