Virgin CO in CP soap ?

Hi everyone !

I have always used refined deodorized CO in my soaps.
I was wondering if the gorgeous coconut scent in the virgin version stands the saponification process ?
Same for hazelnut oil for instance.

Would they be an option to "scent" a soap ?
(I would like to make a non-scented soap, without EOs or F/Os, but it would be nice if it could still have that "yummy" first impression - the first thing people do is to put the soap to their nose, disappointed if it's bland...)

The only fat scents I have had come through (faintly) are cocoa butter and lard. I wonder if adding Virgin CO as a superfat in a batch of HP soap would work?

Thanks, I was wondering about cocoa butter... I have some unrefined cocoa, I may try that - it has such a nice strong scent in the container !

I wouldn’t say the scent of cocoa butter hangs around as distinctly cocoa butter-ish for a long time, but my unscented butter-rich soaps have a different scent compared with the ones made with lard and/or tallow.

It will stay around for about a minute. I have used it in an unscented soap and it was faintly there when I cut it, but by the end end of the day, it was gone.

Cocoa butter scent stuck around for a little bit longer, but only for a day or two.

I have never tried hazelnut oil because it is expensive and I hear it has a short shelf life.

Coconut scent doesn't survive saponification. I use cold pressed CO and it smells lovely going in. The next day when cutting, nothing is left. Just the basic soap smell.

Hi Cathy, yes you're right - hazelnut is an oil I have in my pantry but I haven't used it yet for commercial purposes, for this same reason. I use it as a make-up remover for myself
Would your husband be allergic to other nuts ? or sesame oil maybe ?

Brazil nuts. No known issues with other nuts, seeds or peanuts. Hmm. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Brazil nut oil for sale.
