Hello!

My name is April and I am a true Newbie! I have a full time job at a local community college and im a mother to 6 wonderful kids. Four of which are still at home. Im pretty crafty and I fell in love with handmade soap on a vacation two years ago. Ever since, it has been on my mind to try my hand at it. I still have not made my first batch yet( a little scared), but hope to soon. Im a 44 year old who is going back to college to get my Bachelors in Business and Entrepreneurship. I hope to open my own soap shop and I hope to get some great tips from here. Everyone seems so nice and informative. I need help with two things. 1- i need to know where is the best place to buy my lye? 2- I have to do a feasibility study for a class of mine and im having trouble getting statistics on how the handmade soap market is doing, anyone have any idea where i might find this?

Thanks for listening. I look forward to talking with everyone!

April

Hi April,

Welcome to the forum! :D

I have bought lye from thelyeguy.com but the last time I bought some food grade lye from http://www.essentialdepot.com/ because it was on sale at a really good price. Since you're interested in selling, here is a link to a post about getting ready to sell. http://soapmakingforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=17621

I'm sorry but I don't have any idea where you could find statistics about the handmade soap market.

I just found lye at Rural King today-it is a farm supply store. 2 pounds for $9...not sure if thats a good deal, but I didn't have to pay shipping for it.
