i just made a 1/2 batch of speariment scented soap w/ spearmint leaves sprinked on top. i added titanium dioxide for the first time to whiten it up. i added 1 TB at trace to 2.5 lbs of soup. it seemed to mix in fairly well but i'm worried there wlll be little white specks that didn't mix in completely. is it best to premix the TTD into some oil and then add that to the soap at trace. this is what i do when i use my ultramarine colorant. what's your experience w/ this? pix to follow tomorrow

TD is a PITA to mix. One kind is water soluable, one is oil soluable (or so I'm told. Mine needs to be mixed with oil). You need to figure out which one you have, then mix it in a little bit of whatever you need to (water or oil) and add it to your oils before you add your lye. You can add it at trace too, but some people seem to have better luck the first way. Mix it like CRAZY or you will get splotches.
HTH.

Ditto what LJA said, if you think you have it mixed well, mix it some more.lol.

yeah.....i mixed like crazy....but i was afraid if i mixed any more it was get too thick. thanks for the tips about mixing with whatever it's soluble in....i'll have to check that out.....got mine from brambleberry.

If you got it from BB...use oil. That's the one I have too. :)

CORRECTION:
I just looked it up on the BB site. This is what it says...
"TITANIUM DIOXIDE PIGMENT (OIL DISPERSIBLE)
New! Titanium Dioxide: "Angel White" natural pigment that is both oil and water soluble. When used in Cold Process add to your base oils and mix well prior to adding the lye water solution. Also perfect for lip stick and mineral makeup."

I tried both though, I thought it clumped slightly in water.

yeah now i remember that......but i also ready in 'the soap maker's companion' (my bible!! ) she says to mix in at trace BUT i supposed she could have meant to mix w/ oil and THEN mix that suspension into the soap at trace. she doesn't specify. good thing i did only a 1/2 batch.....tomorrow i'll do another 1/2 batch w/ what i've learned from tnis snafu.....

it's been storming so hard here i was afraid to keep soapin.....it's been very nasty tonite. texas is NOT the place to live in the spring....tornado city......

Put your TD in a small baggie, add a tiny bit of oil or water then squish all the lumps out. Then squeeze it into your base oils is best. But if you are making a split colored batch you can mix it in at trace.
I use this stuff constantly and it drove me crazy trying to find the best way to disperse it!

I have the Angel White TD from BB and I mix it with some raw soap in a ziploc. I'm able to get it mashed up really good but the final bar shows swirls that makes it look like it's not completely incorporated so I'm switching to the normal TD with my next order.

ok, the salt soap I'll getting ready to order items for is also using titanium dioxide in it... I'd love to get the liquid version of it.....
What is TKB??
I don't know all the suppliers and the lingo yet....LOL
