Dark brown soaps can be lovely, the only reason I'm not fond of them is due to the mess but wouldn't you know, my hubbys favorite scent discolors.
@LilianNoir I really like the muted colors and don't stress over the ashy tops, it wash off once you start using the bars.
Make sure your wire cutter is good and tight and wipe the wire between cuts.
I'm guessing you are using a cheese cutter? If you can, nail a small board to it to act as a guide, it helps prevent the loaf from moving while cutting, that will also help with the wire marks.
