Hello everyone!

So I went on a little splurge a few weeks ago and purchased a ton of handmade soap that interested me.. different recipes, different shapes, different everything really.

My one main question for you guys though is.. fat bars or thin bars? that seemed to be a big dividing line between the soaps, even though they seemed quite unique all together!
There were BIG bars, but they were about 1inch in thickness. The designs and layers looked beautiful, as there was a lot of room to stretch out the design.

And there were more COMPACT bars, shorter, stockier, and between 1.5-2.5 inches thick! They didn't look as 'pretty' but were solid. They also in some sorta optical-illusion type way looked smaller all together and yet weighed the same as the BIG tall bars.

I though I would love the stocky bars the most, seems more practical.. but the tall ones have held together in the shower and look great!

Thoughts?

I'm not a tiny woman, 5'9" and my hands are thin, but long. I HATE thick soaps lol. I've been keeping mine 1-1.25" and they're perfect.

I'm definitely a tiny woman (hence the ministeph name haha) I definitely can't deal with the REALLY big bars. My friend bought me a luxury glycerin bar that was a whopping 7.5 ounces.. I had to cut it all apart!

to tell the truth, it was dropping it on my foot in the shower (OUCH!) that finally got me to hack it apart haha

Thanks soapbuddy :) I've been really debating between 1in and 1.5 inches lately..

My preference, with my tiny hands, is 1" thick and oval, tho I make rectangles most often.

I really need to get my oval PVC molds out.

Same here... I do like the feel of round or oval soaps more, the first couple of uses; but decided to go with 1 inch thick rectangles.
Easier to swirl and package for me.

:) I like the idea of oval shaped soap, although I haven't seen a mold for that kind of shape (that was CP compatible that is)

I like mine at least an inch to 1.5 in. Not really thin though. Dunno why. Just don't. I don't have a shaper preference though.

I like so many shapes its hard to pinpoint one.
I really like the size of the pvc rounds. They fit good in my small hands.
Also muffin shapes work good for me.
I use my thin and tall woodfields silicone moulds the most. Its a good shape. 1' thick. Hold up in the shower well. Looks good.
But ultimately I love the look of a chunky cut soap, irregulay shaped, but they're definitely not as comfortable to use.
A soap cake slice is good too.
Hmmmm.... how do I vote??????

Don't really like any smaller as they seem to melt and distort faster in the shower but I don't think thats thin i think its just right.

Though my bars are thin by this poll ( and inch to a little over) their shape is more stocky than long and thin. I find very rectangular shapes end up breaking in the middle when they get small.

I tend to gravitate to more rounded bars as well, though I have made several different shapes and sizes of bars. I really like the pop bottle bars that I made (like in my avatar), because they are interesting to look at and fit well in my hand. My second favourite are the ones I make with a round tube mold. Thickness of about 1" is most comfortable for me to hold, but not everybody's hands are the same size.

That bar in your avatar was made with a pop bottle?!??!? and here I was thinking it was some sort of specialty 'massage' bar mold! :D that is too cool! It looks great.

i am small and have small hands, so i prefer around 1 inch thick. i like rectangles or ovals, things that are easier to hold onto without dropping it on my foot.

I cut mine to 1" and then they cure to a little thinner. I don't like them any thicker than 1".

Thanks! I was looking at items around the house for a unique mold, and suddenly it hit me. I only have about 8 though, so I'll either have to buy more pop or bug some friends for theirs.

Mine are 1 1/4 inches. I measured this from a bar that I had bought and have stuck with that. Sort of chunky ,but not.

Relle.

I like them to have a little heft - I try and cut them around 1 1/4", but of course they shrink up some. I'm also loving the round molds some of us scored at Target about a month ago.
