High CO soap can heat but don’t think it would affect HP. I’ve not had a problem, though I’ve only made shave soap and LS. Would have to do more with the temperature in the pot or oven

I agree with Shari, I think if you are HP'ing or CPOP'ing it will do more with your oven temp than the oils. Most people pre-heat to 170, then turn the oven off when they put the soap in there.

Can you describe your process? Did you do CPOP - meaning your poured your CP and then put the mold in a warm oven? If so, how warm was the oven?

I do HP in a crock pot. I've found that it usually needs to be stirred down at least once during the process.

Hpop. I'm so paranoid that I am now sitting on the floor in front of the oven!! After making this recipe, I think I understand the problem I had last time, WHEN IT EXPLODED all over the oven. I think I measured WAY too much sugar!! It had exploded in less than 5 min in the oven!! I checked the sugar value (5% pop) 3 times because it seemed SO MUCH less than what I added last time! It was a LOT more!! Could that have been the issue? I'm convinced it is, as I sit here!! I have whisk and mitts ready, lol!!

The lye cooled down a LOT as I was getting everything ready, so it went into a 175 degree oven at about 125 degrees (batter). I'm guessing that will add a little oven time. Also, does degree of trace effect how long the oven time is? It feels like it would.

?? You Hot Process Oven Process, or are you thinking of CPOP? (Cold Process Oven Process)
Could that have been the issue?
Sugar can cause overheating for sure.
Also, does degree of trace effect how long the oven time is?
The main reason you want to oven process is to ensure full gel and faster saponification. Once it reaches full gel and is saponified, it's done, and just needs to start cooling down. Temp at time of trace can effect that, as if it's warmer, it will gel faster, meaning it will sapnify faster.

It is the Sugar, or if you have Honey or milk all will make things "bubble" in the pot.
You have to make sure to use a pot that only has 1/2 full so there is room to expand.

It happened to me the 1st time I did it in the oven too.
BUT, I like the oven better then crock pot. More room, even cook, ROOM TO STIR !!! ;)
I leave mine in for 20-30 min then stir then check it every 15 min after that. It all depends on the recipe and how big the amount is.
