Have all or any of you used people (family and friends) to be soap testers for you when just starting out? I have people lined up that are dying to try the soaps for me. I have to wait a few more weeks for the curing process to complete and then will start to hand them out. I told a few that they have to give me constructive critism in exchange for some free soap. I have tried a few myself and have been able to tell that those were my first ones. I plan on always trying everyone on myself before handing them out. Not only for safety reasons but to determine if there are any alterations on my recipes that would need revised. :D

a lot of people who agree to be testers come back and say things like "i love it", "it's so nice" and such but i have found tht the best people to give your soap to to test and get constructive crits is other soapers. they understand the things you are looking for as far as how much lather, drag, scent morphing, slime factor ect where a non soaper loves the fact that you made it and that its awesome and free. :)

I have had a terrible time getting good feedback from testers. I am working on a new shampoo formula and when it is ready for testing I was going to post on this forum and try other soapers. I hear they are supposed to be the best.

That's what I did. Besides myself, my hubby and son, I had 5 other designated testers who gave me critical feedback, and who continued to believe in me and stick by me through my failed experiments and wild & crazy ideas. I am happy to say they that to this day they are all avid fans of my soap.

None of them are soapers, by the way, but they are all more particular than others I know about the soap they use in general. The best way I've found to get helpful criticism from them was to make several different formulas for them to try at a time instead of giving them just one formula at a time. That way, they have a good foundation from which to work to give good, constructive comparisons between them so I could better tweak/improve/perfect my formulas.

Thank you all for your input. I am on the right path then. I don't know other soapers in my area, but I think these people will be pretty truthful.
