Soap curls... best tool?

So I've decided on the Christmas design I want to do for my soap but I do not have a log cutter or a slab mold so this should be interesting. And easy and inexpensive thing to get would be something to make the soap curls with. I don't have a planer but it would be easy to just go out and grab something like a cheese plane, vegetable peeler, etc.

What tool do you suggest to create the curls? And where to buy it? I'm hoping not amazon because everything on there has horrible ratings.

Go to the supermarket and get a simple vegetable peeler, they don't cost much.

Hi @MelissaG - Those pesky soap curls were the death of me the one time I did them for a challenge. I tried every cheese cutter I had, and the one like this worked best. The one like this also worked ok. It was probably just me struggling. Did you watch Lisa at I Dream in Soap make them? Her video was helpful - Video, in case it helps.

I've used a veggie peeler in the past, and it worked fine. My curls weren't of consistent thickness by any means, but that's due to my lack of fine motor skills which results in an inability to cut anything in a straight or consistent manner. In other words, I don't think changing tools would have helped me. However, till reading your post, @MelissaG, I had never considered using my Hercules to shave off thin slices from the top, that were then cut to size. Doh!

Hmmm maybe it is time for a soap curls challenge here on SMF!

I love Lisa. She's my favorite soaper on youtube. I don't know how she gets such straight lines.

Oooo pretty colors. Not yet, I'm out of one of my oils and it's supposed to get here tomorrow.

Had to cancel this weekends market because I sold out of a bunch of stuff last weekend and didn't have supplies on hand to make them all. Totally unexpected.

I made $300 last weekend and $250 the weekend before. What a difference compared to last year where I was making $100 a weekend maybe.
