Today I had some time to kill, so I went to the Dollar Tree. I immediately went to the container section to scope out possible soap molds and boxes to hold crafting gadgets.

I again found the small 1.5(ish)oz plastic containers with lids. And again, I wondered if anyone had tried lining those to use as soap molds for travel size bars. I would plan to unmold them, then when cured, return them to a container to send off with family that travels a lot.

Please let me know if you have tried this before. Save me making the mistake, please? TIA!

You could probably grease them and pop the soap out pretty easily. I have them and the sides are rather flexible for what it is. I've used them to pour cocoa butter into and then flexed the plastic to pop out once hardened.

I just can't resist the idea of using them as travel soaps. I have family that travels a lot. I mean like living out of a suitcase 300+ days/year. And I have 2 other family members planning trips in the next 3 months.

I am glad to know it holds hot cocoa butter. Thanks a bunch! Maybe I will have my camera by then.

I would think that would work. I use them for solid lotion bars. But, sometimes I use my small heart-shaped cavity molds and pour my lotion in them and then pop those hearts in the little round containers. Since the heart molds are silicone, the soaps pop right out. This would be easier than lining the containers. I had already planned to do this same thing for soap and sell on my website.

Thanks! So good to know I am not the only person this occurred to.

Crombie- I only make soap for family, not to sell at this point. So, no competition here.

I will probably try this Saturday, so I will let everyone know how that works out on Sunday.

if you're using them as molds, make sure they're plastic 2 or 5. any other plastic will just melt....

Thank you! They are not 2 or 5. There is nothing but "Made in China" and R3 on the bottom. That is exactly why I asked here. I knew I was missing something important! Saved me a huge mess, you did!

OK, plan B time...I can just use them as a cutting guide for loaf soap.

Thanks again!
