Slab or Loaf

I prefer loaf because I have a loaf cutter my DH made me. Cutting a slab is a bit more difficult for me, and ends up with unevenly-shaped bars.

I prefer both, or neither.

A slab is great for nifty swirling, a log mold is simple and the bars are elegant in their simplicity - even when I do an ITP swirl.

I have both and use both and love both.

I have both but agree with Woodi about the ease of cutting from a loaf. I think that the slab is much harder to cut from, but gives a handmade quality to the work. I have a hard time estimating a 4 oz bar from it though. My father and I made 3 loaf molds from wood scraps that he had laying around his shop ( http://www.kleansoap.blogspot.com ).

Ditto 100% - I'm the exact same way...

I can't be biased in my profession. I build both, use both, and love both for their unique characteristics. I really do love my new silicone style lined log mold though with an adjustable dam. It turns out beautiful sided and ended loafs.

OK, I tend to lean toward my TOG Log molds more.... :? Both batched I did yesterday and today were in my 12" log mold... :D

I don't have a real mould for either, I've just used boxes of different shapes and so far... I really liked the log shaped ones over the slab ones. The logs' bars are easier to achieve an even free-hand cut with.
SO, from a brand new newbie with minimal tools perspective :p

I like those a whole lot.....because....that is me you ordered from on Etsy!  8) I'm TOG Soap Making Tools & Supply. Thanks for the order, you will LOVE your new mold!

I like my TOG economy size logs, because I can have smaller quantities of LOTS of different scents.

I really would love to buy a slab mold for swirling fun, but I get nice swirls in my log molds, just not as wild. Some day I'll break down & order one of the TOG slabs.
:D
