I thought it would be fun to start a thread for the way trace affects swirls. These two infinity swirl batches are exactly the same (recipe, colorants, FO/EOs, swirl motion, same tool--an angled plastic knife), except:
Right: I blended the first batch to a medium trace before dividing/pouring; it was a medium/thick trace by the time I swirled it.
Left: I stirred to emulsion, then divided, poured, and swirled the left batch. I did go over the swirl a second time with my swirling tool! The emulsion batch took twice the wait time before I could cut it, and had a grainy surface texture, but feels smooth after planing
