Same swirl, different trace!

I thought it would be fun to start a thread for the way trace affects swirls. These two infinity swirl batches are exactly the same (recipe, colorants, FO/EOs, swirl motion, same tool--an angled plastic knife), except:

Right: I blended the first batch to a medium trace before dividing/pouring; it was a medium/thick trace by the time I swirled it.

Left: I stirred to emulsion, then divided, poured, and swirled the left batch. I did go over the swirl a second time with my swirling tool! The emulsion batch took twice the wait time before I could cut it, and had a grainy surface texture, but feels smooth after planing

Cool experiment! Both of them are beautiful. That one on the left looks like an exotic bird feather.

What a great way to show how trace can affect a swirl!

Might be a fun monthly challenge prompt - showing 2 batches of the same swirl changing only the level of trace. We could then see how various swirls change at different thicknesses of trace, from a beginner technique like ITP to some of the fancier ones like this...
