Hey everyone!! I've missed you all .. sorry I've been away .. it's been hectic .. applying to schools .. going to school, the kids, blah blah ... anyway. I wanted to bounce a recipe off of some of you more experienced soapers. I'm getting a little gutsy on this one, but not gutsy enough not to get y'alls input. Here goes:

5% Shea Butter
55% CO
20% Castor
20% Palm

Here are SoapCalc's #'s:

Bubbles: 55
Creamy: 37
Cleansing 37
Conditioning: 35

I know ... high in the CO. I was planning on doing maybe a 15% lye discount and adding some yogurt, GM, and CM perhaps. My big concern is the castor. With so much coconut oil, I don't think it'll make for a slimy soft bar, but like I said, never tried anything quite like this before. Also, do you all think that it will be really quick to trace??

I was actually going to say high on the castor oil. From what I understand the soap can feel sticky if you use too much castor. I generally won't go above 5%. But I'm sure others will chime in with their experiences. :)

I've used castor up to 15% with no major problems (shampoo bars).....according to David Fisher, it's above that where you run into problems. I'd drop it down....you're going to get LOTS of bubbles with that much coconut.

It should be lovely soap! :)

Glad your back! I think of you every time I use my chopsticks!

Seems as though you're trying to achieve (create) a bar that's more on the creamy side with rich lather of bubbles. I would reduce your coconut oil percentage and use up your shea butter as you say you would and probably not ago as high 10% lye discount...My fear is you'll probably not have enough lye to saponify the oils and end up with a soap that has more liquids & oils, that turns out soupy so to speak b/c you're using goat's milk my guess cm=cow's milk and yogurt...

I don't have any experience in using that many liquids maybe, somebody else with more experience, will chime in who has done so.

The thing I worry about with a 10% lye discount is that it won't be conditioning enough?? I'm not sure about the milks yet, I'll def. be using aloe juice and might add a glop or two of yogurt depending on the input I get here. My goal with this bar is for it to be the ultimate beach soap since we go to the beach so much during the season. So in other words (sorry I'm being long winded) I want exceptional lather, great conditioning, and a rich lather (I can't do a chincy thin lather, not my thing). :)
