QuickBooks is on sale right now at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/ref=pe_132730_28142210_pe_b1/?ASIN=B008RA5DIE for almost half off in case anyone is wanting an accounting program. I can recommend it as an easy to use program. Strange as it is I'm using Sage (aka Simply Accounting) but only because my business advisor wanted me to use it. I wish I had gone with QuickBooks.

Something else you need to know about it is that you can export all your information to Turbo Tax (Quick Tax) which helps no end.

Okay sales pitch over :wtf:

Lindy, is that Sage the same as Peachtree? I know the companies merged. I liked Peachtree for production tracking. Could you share what you don't like about Sage, I am on the fence with Quickbooks and Sage right now.

Think it depends I would go for sage accounts to be on the safe side as different versions of safe brings different features :)

Sage is the same as Peachtree. Peachtree is the US version and Simply Accounting is the Canadian version. They have now changed it to Sage 50 for both countries.

What I like about QuickBooks is that you can export everything from your program to the Business Tax Program plus you get more functionality for less cost. For instance - I am using Sage 50 Pro and I need to be able to have the account code (forget the accounting term for these) to show up when I print my financial statements and I would like to be able to print a packing list for orders. I can't do either of these functions unless I pay an additional $200+ for the next level up.

With QuickBooks I understand that it prints the account codes when preparing your financial statements. I also find QuickBooks a little more user friendly. I do need to add a qualifier here though because it has been several years since I used QuickBooks.

What I like about Sage 50/Peachtree/Simply Accounting is that it meshes seamlessly with my CSM program (ACT!) so I always have the purchase history in front of me when calling my commercial customers.

So it really is 6 of one and a half dozen of another. Most soap businesses are not going to be using a program like ACT! so that isn't going to be a feature you're going to need.

You are very welcome :D

Both programs offer a free 30 day trial so if you wanted to try before you buy download both of them and then compare their functionality side by side to see which one you like the best....

I think that is what I will probably do- they are both too costly to experience buyer's remorse.
