hi there! :D

well, not for me anyway, but i weighed and measured several bars from different sized molds and this is what i have:

2 x 3.125 x 1.25 = 4.2 oz
2 x 3 x 1.375 = 4.1 oz
2 x 3.5 x 1.125 = 4.3 oz

and a round one:

2.75 x 1.625 (thick)

what are you trying for? do you want a round, square or rectangular soap?

I make soaps in many different sizes. My soaps are mostly about 3-4oz, 2-3oz for children.

I'm wondering how far to fill my mold up. I don't want a bar that is too wide to fit into my hand and I figured there must be a common size.

size is personal preference. The most "standard size" of handmade soap is 3.5" L x 2.5" W x 1" thick. That gives I think around a 4 -4.5 oz bar.

I prefer mine more chiunky and I made mine 3 x 2.25 x 1.25. They weigh between 4.5 -5 oz.

sorry, but i'm a little confused-how big is your container? if you are doing just a little soap at a time, i like using the KOZY SHACK individual pudding cups. they make a 2.5 x 1.375 soap that's perfect hand sized. and weigh about 4 oz each.

plastic pet food, dairy case items and the baby food isle has very interesting plastic containers. also silicone muffin pans.
