I used bottled spring water on my last batches, but I have read tothat you are supposed to use Distilled water.. is there that much of a difference in the end product? :?:

I can't honestly say what the difference is in the outcome. In a pinch i've used tap (for personal soap) and it turned out fine. But distilled water is cleaner since it has all minerals and other good stuff removed.

But I actually prefer to use aloe vera juice in place of the water in all my soaps. I know others do it as well, and it might be something you want to consider to add a new element to your soaps.

So, do you use just as much aloe juice as you would water, if you wanted to substitute that in?
Also, do you mix it directly with the lye as you would with the water? wow, this sounds really great, and Soothing too! yay, I would have never thought of using something other than water.. you will have to forgive me, Im VERY new to all of this, but this is facinating to me, and Im already hooked! :)

You can use anything from tap water to aloe to milks of all sorts.....

I've used tap water, spring water, distilled water.... with not a single difference... I think the lye pretty much eats whatever is in the water anyhow...My water/lye temps have gotten near 300 degrees....

I have heard that if you have hard water it can screw up the soap. With that being said I live out in the boonies and am on well water which is very hard. When I first started making soap I used tap water and the soap turned out fine. Now I use water from a Britta filter jug....and yep...the soap is still fine.

I either use RO (reverse osmosis) water or tap water, have tried aloe juice or milks yet but will soon enough!...I like to use the RO the best because in FL the water has a lot of sulfur,. (though its probably beneficial for the skin...hence i use tap water some times too...think sulfur hot springs :) )

I've never used distilled water - just tap water, so I can't make a comparison.

I can only tell you my soap is wonderful!!
