If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it. So many times when I've made my CP soaps, by the time it has cured, the fragrance I added is long gone. I've been experimenting with different brands, and "frangrance' versus 'essential oils' but I still get the same results. I've doubled and tripled the amount of fragrance that a recipe has called for, and still the scent dissipates. Very frustrating. Any idea's what I'm doing wrong? Any particular brands anyone recommends that are good and strong? Thank you!

Hard to say what's happening without knowing which FO's, suppliers and how much you have been using ..

Some do fade so it's worth reading reviews in the fragrance threads here: http://soapmakingforum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=21 and at the soap scent review board: http://soapscentreview.obisoap.ca/index.php

Recommended Suppliers (just a few off the top of my head): Brambleberry, Natures Garden, Daystar Supplies, Bitter Creek North & South ..

The standard amount to use is 1oz per pound of oil in your recipe .. I personally use 1.5% for most of my batches and they still smell great many months later ..

Hope that helps ;)
oh wow really 1oz per pound?
I read on a soap board 15-30ml per 4 lbs.. So I put 2 tsp per pound.. guess that is why mine was not that scented..

WholesaleSuppliesPlus has nice FO's .It depends where you buy them as to how well the scent sticks . You do get what you pay for with FO's I find.

dont ya love this forum :)

thanks so much! And yes I already love the the forum :)
*hijack over now*

Other things affect the fragrance also, like if you gel your soap. Sometimes fo's with a low flashpoint will burn off or morph if you gel the soap. Another tick for the non gelling argument.

Depending on the fragrance oil, you can use some other things to "anchor" the scent. Litsea cubea (may chang) is my favourite. There was a thread just in the last day or two that listed a heap of additives that you can use to help anchor scent. I'll see if I can find it and come back and put the link in.

yes you have to use 1oz per lb, less for essential oils, .5 per lb for hp.
I love peakcandles frag oils, theres lots of them out there, what are you using for frag now? michaels wont work, only for melt and pour.

With your EO's, try to add a base note or at least a middle note to your blends. You may only need a very small amount of the base, but I've noticed this will help to hold the scent.

Thanks~ I did order my last batch of fragrance from Brambleberry so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they're good.

They should be good. I've had nothing but good luck with Brambleberry (and Bittercreek North too).

hmm, i like aroma haven also. Their lovepsell is great, also if you like "irish spring" smell they have bonsai. also, i have a client that likes the seventh heaven( i personally dont).
