I have done CP and HP in a crock pot but never tried CP/Oven Proc…yet…I like CP, and like doing HP but don’t like the fact of working so fast after the cook to glob in all in the mold before it sets up.
As I understand CPOP… You make the soap, bring it to trace, pour into your mold, then put in a warm oven (170 degrees) for 1 hour. Turn the oven off and leave it there overnight. By the next morning, the soap should be ready to cut.
(Does everyone agree pretty much with this???)
The big question I have is this. Can I stick my whole loaf mold in the oven? It’s just a wood loaf mold I made that I have lined with mylar.
This would solve all my problems with rushing and the end of the crock-pot cook to get it in the mold before it sets up and the top would be nice and smooth and not all chunked up..''
Jerry S..

I put my whole wood or silicone loaf in, but I am not sure about your mylar lining. If it withstands 170 degree then you should be OK.

I think you will get different answers for this. I do it a bit differently. I make my CP and then in the stock pot I put this into the oven and stir every 30-45 min until there is no zap. Then I take it out of the oven, let it sit, but stir it every few minutes to cool off so I dont burn out my fragrance. Once it is cool enough, I add fragrance and then put into mold and cut within 6 or so hours.

Again, this is just me, and everyone will probably have a different answer.

I think this is OHP - oven hot process...

I use the same method as gratia, I don't like the idea of putting the mould in the oven because I believe cooking the finished soap will kill the fragrance and most of its properties (which in the OHP I add after the cooking, so the good things in the oils that I add aren't burned away).

This is just my preference, plus I don't have moulds that can go into the oven, lol!

CPHP question....

Thanks for the tips everyone.
Zhuliya and Gratia, you have good points about burning out the Fragrance. Your process is similar to what I do when I HP in a crock-pot. Just about at the end of the cook I will put my FO in and mix it really well then plop the mixture into my mold, but then I have to work fast as I mentioned so it doesn’t set up on me to quickly and I have that choppy look on the top of my soap…some people like that but I prefer some of my bars to be nice and smooth on top  I may have to give up some of my Fragrance putting it in the oven and leaving it there till its cool..

Dubnica, I think I’ll give your method a try the way you describe since you use a wooden mold. I just didn’t know if my wooden mold could stand 170 degrees and as you say the mylar may do some funny things. I could just make a small batch and see how it turns out.
I thought I might get a few more comments on this topic since so many like to HP their soaps and this CPHP method seems like an easy way to go…
thanks...Jerry S

Jerry S, this won't address the topic of CPOP, but may help with your crock pot method. Have you tried adding sodium lactate when you crock pot your soap? Can't remember who on this forum to credit with this tip but it is really amazing as far as the fluidity it adds at the end of the crock pot cook. I've been able to get some really smooth tops using SL.

yes, i've noticed this too with sodium lactate. glycerin at the end also really helps keep it more liquid. i've had mixed success adding powdered milk at the end -- next time i try the powdered milk i'm going to mix it with just enough extra fluid for the milk to dissolve, and hope for the best.

CPHP question....

Thanks Ruby and Paillo,
I’ve never heard of adding that to the soap at the end of the cook…Sodium Lactate…where do you purchase that?

I have added plain milk to my mix and it seemed to help, but I didn’t know how much to add cuz I didn’t want to make the soap to liquid and then have to wait a long time for it to dry, since some of my bars were for holiday gifts. I do have a little bottle of glycerin that I have never opened.. :) How much of that do you add to say a total 2 pound batch of soap?
Jerry S

I tried SL for HP and it didn't make a scrap of difference to fluidity in my opinion. Of course, it may be my recipe is different.

I do some CPOP and yes Jerry thats pretty much how it works bring to trace pour in mold put in oven at 170 for hour leave over night emove and cut.

I get it from lotioncrafter.com Theirs comes in a powder which I add water to. It costs less in shipping this way since I'm not paying for shipping water.

CPHP question....

I just wanted to thank everyone here for the tips on doing CPHP…I can’t wait until after the Holidays to try it...I am going to make a smaller bar mold out of wood that I can chuck in the oven. Right now my bar that I use for CP is huge, but I have a log mold that I could use but it makes a lot of soap 6#’s but that’s to big to try for my first CPHP in the oven…lol…
