I made a recipe of goat's milk soap this morn & when I put cold water & milk together then added lye water it turned into a pudding like consistency. It didn't do this before. This is the 2nd time I made this soap. The temp wouldn't get over 150. I needed it to go to 165. My question is can you heat the lye/water mixture on the stove?
Blondie

Everything I've read about goat milk soap says to soap at cooler temps. A lye mixture at 165 degrees is pretty hot for pouring into the oils. The saponification process will occur at lower temps. 90 - 125 degrees is pretty standard, although some soap at even lower temperatures.

The only reason I said 165 degrees is that is what the recipe called for. I went ahead and mixed it all up at 110 & seemed top work fine.
