Problem with Lip Balm recipe!

Hey All, I just tried a lip balm recipe, one i got off the net, and i find it a little too greasy. Can anyone tell me what to do to fix it?
The recipe calls for, 40% Sweet Almond Oil
25% Coconut Oil
20% Beesewax
15%Cocoa Butter
It's the right hardness, but i just want it a lttle creamier and not so greasy!

P/S If anyone has a tried and true recipe with these ingredients, i'll give it a try too.
 
You could increase the wax, but then it will get harder. I would try more butters and less oils.

I am no expert at lip balms but I do remember making them as a kid. The nice thing about these is you can melt them back down and change things up. Just melt a little bit and experiment.
 
Your typical lip balm recipe would be 1/3 wax, 1/3 hard oil, 1/3 soft oil.

Like this:

33% Sweet Almond Oil/Coconut Oil
33% Beesewax
33%Cocoa Butter

You can melt down what you have alreday made & add more wax or cocoa butter untill you get the texture you like.
 
Fixed lip balm!

Hey All, Thanks for the help, i tried the 1-1-1 and it was o.k. but still a little greasy, then i added an equal amount of coconut oil and it is perfect. I took a sample to my neighbor who uses Bert's Bees lip balm, we compared the two, and it's hard to tell the difference between them, Thanks again, Trish
oh ya the recipe!
for the test batch i used:
1 tbsp beeswax beads
1 tbsp cocoa butter
1 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp sweet almond oil.
Now i'm goin to try adding some natural powdered fruit extract that i found at N.D.A., for a hint of color and flavor!
 
What is going to keep the fruit from spoiling once the oils wet & rehydrate them?
 
That's a good question! I never thought of that, will they really spoil and cause a problem?
 
I thought that because they are in a powdered form that they would be o.k.!
 
I don't think they can be "rehydrated" without water and am not convinced a preservative is necessary.

I'd be interested in how they turn out - the powders are not likely to be oil soluble LOL.

so will the powders stay distributed? will they be gritty? what will happen???

Now I want you to try it and let me know!
 
Food does not have to contain water to rot/spoil, Rehydrate may have not been the correct word. You could mix fruit powders w/ oil & let them sit about for a few weeks & see what you have :? .

It sounds like a potentially hazardous situation to me.
 
I think that's what i'll do, as soon as i receive them i'll let you know what happens. OOOOH, The suspense is killing me! Meanwhile, does anyone have any suggestions for adding a slight bit of color/flavor(naturally)?

I have heard of people adding honey to their lip balms, but not sure if that would be an issue as far as spoiling goes too. Can the honey go bad?
 
I have never heard of honey going rancid or spoiling. I am sure it could, just don't know under what circumstances.
 
I agree with Tabitha that i don't think the honey would cause a problem. I guess if you used a high enough concentration you may have some trouble with crystallization...but I doubt you would ever use enough to cause a problem.
