Preservative needed in liquid soap?

I have a receipe I would like to try for a emulsified scrub that calls for liquid soap. I found a few receipes out there to make liquid soap, but none of them includes adding a preservative. Since it is made with water don't I need to add a preservative? Thanks for any info.

If you dilute the whole batch of liquid soap, then yes you need to add a preservative. I read somewhere that you can refrigerate most of the soap paste and dilute it a little at a time. That way your liquid soap can be used up before it gets nasty.

Emulsified scrub needs a preservative, since there is a high chance that water will be introduced into the product.

I find it odd that most recipes I find do not include a preservative.
