When I pour my lye water into my fats, its hard to mix with the hand blender. Its just too shallow because I make small batches.

I got fed up and poured it all back into my lye jug and that worked great - made the liquid deep with deep walls and the plastic made the blender much quieter compared to a metal pot.

Is it fine to pour the fats directly into the lye water?

I think you would be okay. If you're needing new containers, check out a place that sells painter's buckets. They come in all sizes and are super affordable. Just make sure it has a 2 or 5 at the bottom. I use pails from the Home Depot. I think I paid less than a dollar for each one that fits my 2lb batches.
