So the other day, after reading extensively on how to make Goats Milk Soap (the proper way) I attempted to do it with frozen milk. (I have made this before by adding non frozen milk, turned lye orange, but soap fine).

Anyway.......I added all the ingredients, lye got a little thick while I was waiting for oils to cool, but blended together beautifully. I added no frag colours at this stage.

I then decided to get creative, and split my batch, I added rose petals to 1/2 (stupid I know!!! they just fried!!!) then with the 2nd 1/2 I coloured it yellow (to go with the yellow rose petals hehe). I then wrapped and put in a tea towel. This is the horror I found a couple of hours later.....................

It was turning this horrid black/green colour from the inside out :(

The next day........

*Remembering the bottom has rose petals, and the top is coloured yellow

And on cuttting........

I was soooo dissapointed, aside from the colour (and the dodgy rose petals) the soap is lovely, it has a beautiful texture and smells creamy.

What went wrong?? Can you colour goats milk soap? Im also guessing not to cover next time?

****update - just checked and the balck is now covered with spots, like yellow is returning??

I know it wasnt inentional. but trimmed up it would look nice I think. Just my opinion.
Havent worked with goats milk yet, but tricky. I do know any dried herbs, flowers will turn brown.

Just for the record,

I have the ugliest soap ever made.

Yeah, best not to experiment too much at first but part of me loves it when you do because you can end up with some really interesting soap. Trim that one up, pretend that was the look you were aiming for and enjoy your soap.

didn't there used to be an ugliest soap contest or something? someone had "dookie" soap i think? lol

i think the black and white are pretty and would look nice with a trim. let it cure and see what happens ....

Well, that had me laughing, looking at the first two pictures and having made a few uglies myself, but I'll be darned! That finished soap looks pretty good! The black and white contrast is pretty cool and if you don't tell anyone that the stuff in the bottom is actually rose petals-well, they'll think it's just got black flecks in the bottom that go with the top. I completely agree with everyone else about trimming the edges and then the colors will look intended and quite nice (assuming it doesn't morph anymore). Crap. I wish my uglies turned out so well.

I think it's lovely. I also think that the photo I post tomorrow of my first lard batch will win the ugliest soap contest. I tried to use different concentrations of infused alkanet root and part of it's gray.

I love the black with white casing. You can always send it to your SMF friends to try!

I don't think it looks too tragic either.
Trim it up, you'll b surprised.

Looks like in the first picture it gelled.
This could b why it appeared to start looking dark from the centre out as u descibed it.

Sorry to say though, its not as bad as my orange & poppyseed creation...it was tragic!!!! Rank, oozing oil & fugly.

I think an ugliest bar thread would be hilarious! Unfortunately, my current ugliest bar is long gone in the trash and I deleted the photo I took, but I know I've got a couple decent runners-up on the rack.

I quite like it too. :) If someone wanted to buy some off you, you probably would have a hard time trying to get it to look the same again.

Relle.

I think it looks cool! I have only coloured my goatsmilk soaps with chlorophyll and coffee so far, they don't transform into another colour..

Nope, not the ugliest bar ever made. Sometime the picture we had in our mind before we made it is so hard to overcome that we have a hard time seeing that whatever emerged is not so terrible as we think it is.

Hi everyone,

Well I'm glad to hear I made some of you laugh!!

I think your all being far too nice, its ok you wont hurt my feelings by admitting its ugly.

The black now has yellow pokerdots on it....seems like th colour is beginning to return, or it could stay as it is and be an even UGLIER bar.

I used an oxide by the way :)

I think its a great idea to have an ugliest bar thread, at least we will all have something to console ourseves with when we do stuff up :D
