does anyone know how to get orange coloring for soap w/herbs..i read about using carrot baby food but i'm wondering if i can use fresh carrots?

Fresh carrot juice, pureed carrot baby food, and tomato paste all lend a great orange color to soap. I just made a soap last week colored with tomato paste and it came out a lovely orange/peach color.

Dear soap makers :)
Thank you for your responses! So would i just add tomato paste or carrots at trace?

i got a very orange color just adding a little honey to my lye water

Red palm oil at about 30% looked burnt orange in one batch and at 10% looked yellow in another batch. I did not use any EO or FO in those batches and you could smell alot of the red palm oil in the finished soap. Not a pleasent smell in my opinion.

It is Chrissy; I've got problems with acne and my facial bar, made with carrot and tomato puree as 50% of the liquid really helps a lot!

Dear Irish Lass,
How much tomato paste should one use per pound of soap?
I am going to try to make it in a bit--I was thinking about 2-3 tablespoons for a 4lb. batch?
Thanks!
Raha

I use only 1 teaspoon of tomato paste ppo. Depending on the color of my oils and/or FO, I sometimes also add 1/2 a teaspoon of TD to it as well.

I buy the tomato paste that comes in a convenient tube as oppsed to the kind that comes in a can (less waste that way). I found it at my grocery store in the gourmet foods aisle next to the fancy spagetti sauces.
