Hi everyone,

I got this huge jar of valencia orange EO and would like to use it in CP soap, but I've heard that citrus EO's don't hold up with CP. Should I even bother, or would it work if I just use a ton of it, like maybe 5-6 TB for 4 lbs? I'd like to blend it with some other oils, so I don't know how I could even predict what the final product would smell like.

Thanks in advance! :D

I love orange eo, what Ialways do is pair it with an FO and I've had no problems...keep in mind though, my oldest soap is only two months old

I like that idea, but I don't use any FO's...just EO's. :?

I wonder if pairing it with something like benzoin would fix the scent?

Be really really careful and think it through, research thoroughly and carefully BEFORE deciding to use benzoin.

I HAD to try it for myself. I bought a tiny amount, added a little bit to a plain unscented batch.

That batch is not even 2 weeks old, but again, I HAD to test it. I knew it could cause problems, I've read about it being a sensitizer. I tried the soap yesterday and now I have a lovely rash on my hands and forearms. I already had a touch of poison ivy, so my immune system was already drained. I'm terrified to go out in the sun for the next few days, I don't want to trigger a Lupus response on top of everything else.

Lesson: If you still choose to use Benzoin be sure that it's CLEARLY labeled.

Edited to say - the redness on my skin could be from something else, but I'm not taking any chances.

Wow! I had no idea benzoin was known for causing trouble. I don't know if I've actually used it in anything yet. I just bought it because I wanted something to approximate vanilla.

Maybe the litsea idea would be the best...

Just a question though...could the problem be that the soap is only two weeks old? Wouldn't it still be pretty harsh?

You could try orris root to anchor the scent . FYI There are people with sensitivities to orris root .

I've found that the slightest touch of patchouli can anchor a scent. Litsea works ok too, for citrus scents.

I don't have any orris, but I think I'll maybe try a little litsea AND patch!

Thanks, everyone!

I tried using Orange/Patchouli 2/1 and there is no orange scent at all, that was in CP, it very quickly vanished, very disapointed as it smelt gorgeous at first!

Co-ordinating scents

I'm new to soaping and just used lemon on a batch and orange on another, the scents really faded, now I know why, learn something new everyday.
Here's some that might go with lemon - at least thats what Im told

Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Eucalyptus, Fennel, Juniper, Cedarwood

Good Luck

This is what I'm wondering...what if I tried like 4/1 or 5 or 6/1?? I'm willing to try it since I have so much of the orange. I wonder if that would help or if it's just going to fade no matter how much you use?

Unless you really like patch, I'd reduce it to about 5% of the fragrance formula. And use 10X orange if you can find it, at least 5X.

I love Patch and even that faded in this one, it looks lovely and smells disapointing IMHO! I think i might try FO next time as I think citrus and Patch go really well together.
