Hello, I am new to soap making. I made a 100% olive oil batch with a spanish friend and now want to try lard and OO. I worked out this recipe from a calculator, if any kind experienced persons would like to comment that would be most appreciated:
250 g lard
225 g olive oil
25 g castor oil
65.8g lye
165g water.

I am also thinking of using about 50 g of lavender infused olive oil (homemade) ,as part of the olive oil fraction.
Is this likely to work?
Thanks for any comments/ advice.

You won't get much bubbly lather with that combination. Have you considered adding coconut oil? If you remove the castor oil and add 15% coconut oil, you still get high hardness and conditioning numbers, plus more bubbles.

The lavender infused oil is ok to add but the scent will not likely survive saponification.

I think I calculated the percentages as 45% lard, 40% OO and 15% CO, which can be tweaked to your preference.

Here is a soap I was very content with it:
Coconut oil 20%
Olive oil pomace 25%
Lard 50%
Castor 5%

I allways use this two in my soaps: Coconut oil (15-30%) and Castor (5-10%).

Thanks everyone. Well, on the way to the Indian shop ( to buycoconut oil) which is a couple of miles from where I live, I got a puncture when a huge nail got stuck in my bike wheel. So I went home and made 50:50 lard and olive oil. I'll lEt everyone know how it goes, and add coconut oil to my next batch. So far the lard/ OO soap is thickening nicely in the tupperware.
