Thanks for that explanation. I know exactly what the zap from a battery feels like..lol

I made my second, it's gellin' : )

I have a question now about taking the stupid thing out of the mold. It doesn't want to come out. It's been in there 24 hours.

This is the one I have:

I had a little too much so I had some on the excess thing and i scrapped it off and it was like play dough. I'm guessing it needs more time in the mold?

I realized when I made the second batch that I poured my first batch in the mold at a thinner trace. I got a nice trace on the second batch and it was very nice and custardy.

Course I had to try that soap and it's lathery and has suds so I'm happy with that..lol

Gonna make a 3rd batch when hubby leaves for work I think ;)

Can you pop the mold in the freezer for awhile ? That usually works for me if I have something stubborn that doesn't want to come out.

I'll try that. How long is a while? I was so looking forward to getting it out..grr! LOL

Oh I dunno, maybe 1/2 hour or hour ? I sometimes use PVC pipe as molds and I know if I toss them in the freezer I only have to leave them maybe an hour and then the soap slides right out. Your mold is more spread out so I doubt you would need any longer, probably less time.

ok *jeopardy music* while I wait. I'll let you know!

Rosey, if the soap is a little on the soft side you can leave it in that mould for days if you need to (I know, it's frustrating  ). My very first soap was in a mould like that - I left it for 3 days and it still wouldn't unmould; then froze it for 24 hours and then sat it in a hot water bath for a couple of minutes and it still wouldn't come out!!! I ended digging it out and hand moulding it into soap bars  Of course, I made a fairly soft recipe and that type of mould is better suited to MP soaping. You can use it for CP but it can be a challenge to remove! If I use a mould like that again I would want to be sure I had a very hard recipe (60% hard oils at least) or I would line it with freezer paper first. The individual soap shape moulds usually unmould much easier - although in my experience I still often have to freeze them first.

You may be fine with freezing the soap and unmoulding. Let us know how it goes!

Tanya :)

I probably should have left it until tomorrow but I finally got it out but it stuck a little to the bottom. I think it's probably from pouring it a little too early. I didn't use freezer paper because they told me it didn't have to be lined and it's a mold that has lines you know, for easy cutting.

The second batch I have going is lined because it's in a heat resistant loaf glass mold. That one I poured at a thicker trace and it gelled faster.

Well here's a crappy picture. The top isn't as smooth as it looks on this blurry picture. (it's not as nice as some other 1st timers but hey I made it to soap, that's all I cared about)

Top half is the top of the mold and the bottom half is the bottom of the mold. They are about 2oz blocks.

Now you know I had to try a little piece and so far it has a nice creamy slightly bubbly lather. Nice feeling actually.

It's unscented and just oatmeal added at trace and it smells like dough! lol

I'm excited because no matter how hard I try in chemistry class, I rarely get the right number at the end of the day

I took this idea from someone's picture but I bought those walmart shoe racks (they are on the floor though in my laundry room) and they are sitting on those pretty.

Tomorrow, I'll have my other one :D

Congrats :) It looks very nice, I'm waiting to see batch #2 later today :D
