Hi guys. This is my first post. I've just made a new batch (my 3rd ever). I got to trace really easy this time unlike my first batch. I was just wondering what would happen if the temperature of the oils was a too hot. What would the soap be like afterwards? I noticed it was starting to set quickly.

If you soap too hot you will get really fast trace and can possibly get a volcano as well. I prefer to soap cool. 80-110 is usually the goal for most soapers. However, when I first started I didn't check the temp, I just felt the lye container and if it was just warm to the tough as well as my oils I was good to go. There are several different techniques such as Room Temp and Heat Transfer. But, until you are comfortable with your recipes and techniques I would soap a touch warm.

It would depend on how hot it is I suppose. You don't want to bring the oils to smoke point, if that is what you are asking.

If it is way too hot, you run the risk of volcano in the mold. Which will result in a hole in the soap, unsaponified soap batter all over your counter, and icky textured soap. But, some monitoring for a couple of hours when it is in first put into the mold will avoid this. Just uncover the soap to let it cool.

It's not volcanoed :) I've just checked it and it's setting nicely and is warm. I was just wondering about the quality of the soap. Such as if it's too cool it may be crumbly.

Being cool should not affect the texture of your soap or make it crumbly. Many put their soap in the freezer or fridge to avoid gel. I happen to soap with my oils and lye at room temperature but allow my soaps to gel.

I do as Shunt does..I soap cool..80-100 and let most of my soaps gel..the only ones I put in the fridge are my milk soaps. And as was said, soaping cool shouldn't make your soap crumbly.
