Oamilk problems

I made oat milk by soaking some oats in hot water for a while then straining it. I used this instead of water for the soap. When I added the lye, it became thick with small clumps. Then I added the mixture to my oils, gave it a quick go with the hand blender ( to get rid of the oatmilk/lye clumps) and then it traced within 10sec!. But it was still oily. It was thick but not homogeneous - clearly not ready to mold, but I poured it into the molds anyways.

Was this because of the oatmilk? Why does it make clumps? What went wrong?

Did you use instant oats or the slow cook kind? I used oat water the other day (slow cook) and no problem. Sorry yours acted up!

I used the slow cook type. Maybe I put too many oats in the water (about 3/4 cup for 1.5 cups water)? I read that oats have polysaccharides, which become gelatinous in water (hence the clumps).

i had a similar experience with rice. the recipe called for the rice to be simmered for 40 minutes and the rice water to be used instead of regular water with the lye. It turned to a solid gloopy substance in seconds after mixing in the lye. I dumped it and haven't tried it since. I figured it was the starch in the rice. This might be what happened with yours.
