Hi,
I recently discovered I have sensitive skin, and was using just lotion to wash with until I found homemade soap. (I've already made my own laundry soap, using Zote.) I have made a small (6 small bars, using one cup of fat) batch and made some mistakes but I'm totally hooked now.
I don't want to put all my questions at once, for fear of overloading everybody. So, the biggest one is about soaps that lather well.
A friend who introduced me to the joys of homemade soap told me that he adds coconut oil to make the soap lather well, and vegetable oils for all the rest. I want to use lard, since it's cheap and I have some already. So do I still need coconut oil, or is the saturated fat in the lard enough to ensure good lather? I use his soap to wash my hair as well as my skin, and it works well, but I need good lather for that.
The other big question I have is about scents, but I will wander on over to the fragrance part of the forum to post that one.
I'm so glad to find you all!
