Newbie from Saraland, Al

Hello, as you see I am from Saraland which is North of Mobile, Al. which as everyone knows Mobile is one of the coastal areas hit by the BP oil leak (

I am very new to soap making, made my first batch Sat. some of it in a milk carton and some in a mold. 2 questions if I may, How in the world do I unmold the soap from the mold and can I remelt the soap shavings and try to make more soap?

What kind of mold did you use?

You can rebatch soap but I've never done it so I can't tell you how to do it. But if you use the search function and type in "rebatch" it will bring up threads about it.

Thanks Hazel & Chay. I used a qt. milk carton that was not a problem. but the problem is a plastic rectangular soap mold I have read mineral oil, don't know still learning I used a recipe from Smart Soapmaking. I did not measure my FO correctly so not much of a scent, but it still smells ok

So you did CP and put it into a plastic mold? I've always heard you can't put CP into a plastic mold. It gets too hot and warps the mold.

Did you try sticking it into your freezer over night?

HHmm, things I have read said you can do CP in a plastic mold, it is not warped I was wondering how to remove the soap without messing up the soap. I have seen videos where people just push and the soaps pop out.

Curious if you can't put CP in a plastic how do people put MP in a plastic mold? From videos seems to go from Microwave, stirring to mold. Still learning so I am full of questions, no I am not a youngster; far from it.

You can put MP in a mold because it doesn't get hotter after you melt it. Also, you don't have to heat it to a very high temp. My understanding of the CP process is it heats up during the saponification process.

I'm not an expert so I could be wrong. I could have just misunderstood what I've read. I'd like to know for sure because I have some plastic molds that I'd love to use for CP if it's possible.

I'll have to look for an answer.

Yup, you're right. I searched on google and found a site (moldmarket.com) that specifically said their plastic molds can be used for CP.

I'll definitely have to buy one of their molds and give it a try. I'm glad you mentioned it because I would have continued believing that I had to use silicone or wood molds.
