Where can i find a digital scale? I tried walmart no luck. Also do most of you use a stick blender? I took my first soapmaking class in Oct. and the teacher said she didn't recommend using a stickblender but she also said she had never tried it herself. Thanks in advance for all your help.

she didn't recommend a stick blender???? I'd take just about everything she advised with a grain of salt then.....I probably wouldn't even make soap without a stick blender, I like so don't have the patience! Maybe if you were only making little 1 pound batches and didn't use any fats that take forever to trace you could get away with not having one. You can usually find them fairly cheap (under $20) not that it's going to last forever though.
As for a scale, I'm with ya there. I read somewhere that one luck shopper found one for $35 (down from $50ish) at Target! I need one also, but haven't really started looking yet. I usually start on ebay when I'm looking for anything....ya never know when you might get lucky there....

I got a digital scale at Target foraround $20. I think it was on sale though. I got 3 different cheap stick blenders from Walmart that burned out quickly. The 4th is a more expensive model. We will see how long it lasts.

I got my digital scale off ebay, they have several listed. I paid less than $20 with shipping. But for the very small amounts like FO and EO they are hard to measure. I did find another one on ebay for about $30, free shipping that only goes up to 13# and looks to be more accurate for the smaller amounts. I'm thinking about getting one, also the top is stainless steel.

Thanks for your quick replies. Believe it or not the teacher is a soapmaker who sells her soaps, she is just older so maybe just used to doing things the oldfashioned way. I will keep checking walmart and target if not i will order online. Oh and I will definitely get a stick blender no patience here for stirring for days to reach trace. Thanks again

I got both my scale and blender off ebay, really good prices. $25 for the scale, weighs up to 11lbs in grams, ounces, or pounds. & around $15 for my blender - def. try a blender. My first batch i hadn't bought on yet - three hours to get it to trace, second batch I had my blender - 10 mintues to trace. 8)

If you have a local Home Brewing and Wine Making Shop most have very good digital scales for $29.

I got a good deal on a digital scale at Bed Bath & Beyond. I wanna say I paid around $20 and it is a very nice model. It was already on sale plus they send me a 20% off coupon at least once a month. Be sure you get one with a Tare function and one that doesn't reset itself after a minute.
(I made THAT mistake before buying this one)

BB&B probably also have stick blenders but I bought mine at Goodwill for under $10.
