after much uncertainty with the home made soaps projects, I have joined this forum to get encouragement from other participants to move on from just ideas, purchasing supplies and not actually making the products. I have purchased books and also spent tons of time reviewing recipes on line. My goal, for this christmas season, was to make gift packages for all my family members. I purchased the supplies and then.... the season has now come and gone! Please help me someone.

Welcome to the forum! What kind of help do you need? Help with a recipe, reassurance about using lye, a poke with a cattle prod?

Welcome janelcock!

What kind of soap are you planning to make? CP? HP? MP?

Is it fear that is holding you back? I ask because a fear of working with lye held me back from making soap for about a year or so back at the beginning, but when I finally decided to just go for it and I made my first batch of soap, I felt so silly for letting myself become so petrified. True- lye is definitely a dangerous chemical that deserves to be handled respectfully- but the safety precautions are not as burdenesome or as difficult to follow as our minds tend to blow them out of proportion to be.

Or is it as Hazel says- that you just need a poke from a cattle prod?

I many times feel like a poke from one of those would come in handy- though not so much for soapmaking as for housework (I usually don't need any prodding to make soap).

(Hazel- if my mouth had been full of chai when I read your cattle prod question, my keyboard would now be wet. )

IrishLass :)

Then I'm glad you weren't taking a sip.

I mentioned the cattle prod because that's basically what everyone's help and encouragement was for me to make my first batch.
